It kind of tough to tell from posts. I'm curious, yea a slow evening as I get ready to cook my meal.
For me it's normally 700 to 730. It's been like that for many years. It goes back to my day working and traveling. I would never get out of wherever I was till 600. Back to the hotel, take a deep breath. Meet colleagues at the bar for a couple. Then off to dinner. It could be as late as 830 before we actually ate. It's been that way ever since. Not 830 but 700 is the earliest.
When I was a kid, mom had dinner on the table at 5:30 PM sharp. Be there or go home hungry. With two brothers (and two sisters) that was a real threat. So to this day I plan dinner for 5:30 or even sooner. Habits die hard. 🤷‍♂️

My wife calls me "Teddy" and I call her "Princess" and that's where "mrteddyprincess" comes from.
6:30 pm. But on Sunday it's at noon. The evening meal on Sunday is called supper. And the rest of the week "supper" and "dinner" are interchangeable because they both mean 6:30 pm. But Sunday dinner is always an after church meal.
Attjack I agree it is a confusing system. I did not invent it. It was handed to me in Central Indiana among farm folk. To make it more confusing, even during the week, lunch was called dinner, and the evening meal was called supper, even during the week days. We didn't have lunch, we had dinner on most days.
That is pretty much how we worked when I was growing up in northern Wisconsin. My grandparents apparently had dinner at noon and supper in the evening when they were young, so I think it was a nod to that on Sundays.
I would prefer around 5-6, but my wife doesn't like to eat until like 8! So I try to time cooks during the week where hers sitting for a little bit won't matter.
For us it’s anywhere between 5:30-9:30. If I get called out I may not eat dinner. I usually try to have dinner ready when my wife arrives home from work.
Being retired the big meal is usually at noon, but when I was working it was at 5 just like when I was growing up. Late night eating these days is a hazard.
For us it’s usually between 5:30 and 6:30. Most days we are both on the OMAD, one meal a day, intermittent fasting program. When time for that one meal rolls around we are ready for it!
Closer to 7 in summer or times of more daylight, 6 pm generally otherwise , I like to give my wife an hour at minimum to be home before I shove a meal in front of her.
Good point. The more daylight the later I might eat. Below I said 7 (sometimes 6) but in summertime, it could easily be 8 or even 9. And in winter, I'm more likely to eat sooner and go to bed sooner.
5:30 - 7:00, but may vary a bit if necessary. I have a hiatal hernia and my Dr recommended that I not eat less than 3 hrs before bed. I try to do that, but if we are out, it does occasionally happen.
My lovely bride and I both have only two cups of (strong) coffee in the morning, then lunch and dinner. I'll typically eat a piece of fruit in mid-morning (banana or apple usually), then a decent lunch, and dinnertime is targeted at 6:30pm. Sometimes it's a little earlier, sometimes a little later, but not by much. But as LA Pork Butt said, eating any later is asking for trouble, especially for me. I need several hours of being upright after eating before I go horizontal, else I have a really bad night, gastrically speaking. The heartier and richer the meal, the longer I need before lying down. And I typically am in bed not much past 10, so that pretty much is that.
