    Thyme in a Bottle

What was the single best BBQ moment from your past, that you would love to relive again?

    #2
Not really bbq, but sitting down at my grandparents table on Christmas to a 5 course meal. The main was my grandfather's grilled ribeyes. This is for so many different reasons.

Used to boat in to a wilderness camp on a 7,000' high lake in the sierras with some buddies, I did a lot of the camp cooking and always tried to surprise them. The dutch oven tricks got boring, so one year I pre-smoked some ribs but brought the entire UDS across - in a canoe. It was an epic meal.

Spicer Meadows Reservoir. Used to camp up by the wilderness buoy line.

Not a single one but, the 6 MeatUps I’ve attended with many of you guys and gals. The quality of the food was only surpassed by the company!

It was hotdogs on a sharpened sassafras branch over a treetop fire...dad drank Schlitz Beer back then. I totally forgot about that.. thanks for promoting such a great memory!

Yeah i remember in elementary school hot dog day. All the kids would get on the bus with their switches that had been sharpened to a lethal point. Some kids had coat hangers straightened, everyone had a big wad of aluminum foil on the pointy end to try and save their neighbors eye. My dad would cut me a poplar switch and sharpen it. I remember piercing my dog right down the center and my bus driver who was at the fire complemented me on my technique. ☺️🔥🔥🐿️

I grew up in Europe, lived in New York, New Orleans, and San Francisco, so I’ve had some great meals but for me it’s about who I’m sharing it with.

Trash can pizza. Went camping with a bunch of friends and made a ton of pizza dough ahead of time. Brought all the fixings too. Made a real campfire and placed my pizza stone on top of the metal grate. Got that stone up to temperature, set the pizza on it and covered it with a small metal can cover. The height and size was perfect. The lid was larger than the stone allowing some heat to enter. Top heat wasn't perfect but good enough. Everybody had a great time making their pies and baking them on the fire. Lots of laughs and drinks. Everybody was impressed. We need to do that again lots of fun.

Back packing with my dad when I was a teenager he had a frying pan that was carbon steel he would bring. We fried all the trout up in that pan over the coals. They were delicious, my favorite was the crispy eyeball to gross out my sisters 😂🔥🔥🐿️

I can think of better edit memories, but for BBQ, it would have to be for the first brisket I cooked. It happened after I joined The Pit, (of course!).

We had a bunch of friends over and they were wowed. I don't think I have cooked one better since.

That was the call and the reason I joined the Pit! I wanted to cook a brisket and have it be edible. My first attempt ever before the pit was a sous vide brisket and it was barely edible. I was scarred it was so bad. Then i turned out a great one in my PBC with encouragement and guidance from the wonderful people here!! 🔥🔥🐿️

I was probably 12 and me and dad were camping at Lake Texoma. I caught two 1 1/2 lb channel cats with a line I put out the night before and dad fried them up for breakfast. Best tasting fish ever, a good memory, and even the instant Folger's coffee tasted extra good.

Oak Smoke - you were catching strippers - not stripers. I'm surprised Panhead John wasn't with ya.

Grilling some kosher salami as an appetizer with my dad. He let me flip the salami slices years before I was trusted to turn the hotdogs.
