Good stuff, indeed. Now if I could just convince SWMBO to quit funding Swanson, our pantry shelves would be a lot roomier.

I make my own stocks, but help powdered bullion around to use as seasoning.

Yes sir, BTB is great. I need to explore more of their flavor selections. Although I still make my own chicken and turkey stock, BTB is our go to for beef and vegetable. Always available here and I was not aware of availability issues elsewhere.

It's a good product but has a very high salt content, something that I always remind myself of when cooking with it.

Not as good as homemade broth but adds good flavor when that's not available.

BTB comes in handy, so I keep it around for the quick or lazy times. But, you’re right about salt jeopardy

Right you are, Kathryn. I probably use the BTB concentrate paste most often without diluting it first into broth. In many dishes, it's a great flavor-enhancer and substitute for actual salt crystals.

Kathryn, I found a reduced sodium variety at Sam’s Club. I don’t know if it’s available elsewhere.

We have been using Better Than Boullion in place of Boullion Cubes, so now it is time to "throw out" boxed broth.

There are high quality brands of boxed broth, but they cost like $8/quart. I can produce 10 quarts for about $15 and 6 hours effort on a lazy sunday. So, I generally don’t buy those boxes. BUT if you want high quality without the effort of doing it yourself, they are out there.

I am late to the party since I just bought my first jar of BTB. Per the label, it does have a lot of salt. Could not find the lower salt version. I will try it tomorrow night in a chicken piccata.

I omit salt from the recipe if I’m using BTB. Then I do a final taste/seasoning at the end.

Likewise, if I use BTB I skip added salt.

I really like it. I do make my own stock. When I make chicken noodle soup, which I did a week ago. I soften the aromatics and then add the chicken raw and then pour in the homemade stock. Cooking the aromatics and raw chicken in the stock amps up the chicken flavor. Then I cook the noodles in a separate stock pot and I add better than bouillon to the noodle water to infuse chicken flavor to the noodles. Once the noodles are cooked I add them to the soup which is already off the burner and cooled down enough not to further cook the noodles. Very flavorful soup that is aided by this product.

Would anyone actually use BTB "stock" for, say, French onion soup? A serious question, no snark intended. I do have several BTB varieties in the fridge, but I've only used it by the spoonful to bolster a pan sauce such as a chicken piccata.

            And...what about Better Than Gravy?

I’d have no qualms about using BTB for French Onion Soup

I only use BTB for a backup. On the rare occasions when I don't have stock stocked...Or I ran out of stock because I forgot to stock up. Sometimes the store runs out of stock so I can't stock up on stock.

Sometimes I buy stocks....Every once in a while I end up with less stock than what I started with....That would be a reduction in stock...Sometimes the stock grows.....Then I can stock up on more stock. That way I can afford a reduction in stock because I stocked up on stock! Oh Yeah!!

There was an episode of America's Test Kitchen years ago where they stated that many of the stocks bought in grocery stores start their life at concentrates. They are diluted, packaged, and sold under their own brand name.

Never used this before. I have only ever used the broths mostly from Aldi. Where in Costco can you usually find BTB? I was there yesterday and didn’t see them with the broths.

You’ll probably have to just ask next time you’re there, but it’s available in a lot of places. I know that Walmart and Kroger carry it also.

I believe Costco has the BTB next to their spices.

I use it all the time. I love the veggie flavor and the sautéed onion flavor. The best secret ingredient ever!

What a coincidence, I just used some BTB this morning setting up the crock pot. SWMBO introduced me to it years ago and I've never looked back.
