I have a big stash in my freezers so I haven't purchased meat in months (other than the pork butts which finally came down to $1/lb last month). I just checked my local HEB's curbside order website (curbside prices are slightly higher than in store prices) and here are a few items:

    Ribeyes: select - $14.90/lb choice - $15.42/lb prime - $21.84/lb wagyu - $41.19/lb

    briskets: packer (grade unspecified but usually select, maybe low choice) - $2.53/lb Prime - $4.42/lb wagyu - $8.23/lb grassfed/finished choice - $4.62/lb

pork ribs St. Louis (natural) $4.73/lb baby back - $4.93/lb St. Louis - $3.07/lb

no bone-in pork butts listed, boneless - $3.08/lb

chicken wings are in the $3/lb range.

When I was working, every time I saw beef or pork or chicken on sale I bought it, sealed it, and froze it. Right now the only meat I buy is burgers, because we’ve eaten all the frozen ones.

But we’ve also been doing salad nights. Not for frugality, but because a good salad is pretty damn good.

We used to to salads quite regularly until lettuce became more expensive than red meat.
As usual a crop failure or some pestilence is to blame....whatever....
At $7-8 for a small head a lettuce I'm out.

SMOKIN , I live in gulf coast Florida, where local produce is available all year round. Strawberries are in right now, believe it or not (I grew up where they were in season in ~May). I get my produce mostly from a local co-op, and I asked them about the price of lettuce (at that time $13 for a 4 pack of romaine), thinking it was Hurricane Ian wiping out the fields in Sept. Was told Ian took out Florida romaine (usually pretty cheap) at the same time the plagues hit California.

We’ve signed up to get the online sale circulars from all the grocery stores with in 30 minutes of us. So far its been a great tool, especially on meat.

It's hit or miss here, but nothing crazy like I have heard from other places. We don't eat steak very often, so I'm not sure about prices on those.

I grabbed a 10# bag of fresh chicken leg quarters for $7.99 a couple of weeks ago. The next day I went back and got two more for the freezer. They were back in stock yesterday at the same price.

I have to eat a lot of protein for among other things, dialysis.

They track several key indicators in my blood weekly. That's one of them.

Go to Sam's early on Wednesdays , That's when they mark down meats, The last time in, picked up some prime strips, for $12 something per lb, Prime rib eye's $12. something per lb. some of the dates were the day I was there, The butcher told me he even marked some down for the next day. Great quality, much better than wally world. It saves to shop around, A Kroger here had 12 eggs for $2.69. last week. And good beacon for $4.49 per LB.

Does anyone out there use any price checker Apps, my wife and I both have the Flipp App on our phones so you can check for the lowest prices.
There are two grocery store in our area that do price match, by Flipp, so we try to do most of our shopping there so we don't have to hit a number of grocery stores for the best price.

We have two freezers downstairs. One is ours, one my daughters.
We still have animal protein but nothing for the smoker really with the exception of the duck and some chicken pieces parts...
          Parts is parts.

          Smoked baked potatoes?
Hey, I'm half Irish... I like potatoes.
          Stuffed smoked potatoes?
          Hmm...

I think we will be dealing with this for a while. Especially with beef.

I don't buy meats from Sally World. I have seen Packers for 4.96lbs but I don't know there quality. I usually go to Food Lion on Wed. They have manager's specials. I also shop LIDI but you have to get there on Wed. because it's first come first served no rain checks. They have whole Salmon filet on sales.

I made a trip to Costco yesterday, and this was the first time in the last 2 years that I’ve seen prime packers in stock, and the cost was close to what it was pre-dump fire. I think I paid $60 for a 14lb packer. I was beyond excited to get my hands on a prime packer and at a great price!

Good to hear, I'm headed to Costco late today or tomorrow. Hoping they have their seasonal corned beef in also, of course my primary reason for the trip is I'm nearly out of dog treats

Finster, smoked brisket reheats about the best of any bbq-type meat, imho. Several years ago around this time of year, I found in the freezer a ziplock bag of some brisket point that was badly freezer burned. I was really wanting some brisket that day, so I just warmed it up slowly in the microwave and it was surprisingly pretty good. 😄 I think the smoky boldness of the salt and pepper rub/bark can withstand the effects of freezing better than most meats.

I shop the sales flyers for Publix, Kroger and Fresh Market - my local grocery stores - weekly. I only buy the meat that is on sale. Like $1.99 a pound brisket, or BOGO butts and ribs. Right now we are eating ribeye steaks I cut from a $5.78 a pound prime rib roast I bought in December, cut up and froze.

We have a local grocery store that likes to have BOGO (or even B1G2) on ribs.
Of course, when they jack the price of the ribs up to $8.99/lb, it really isn’t much of a sale

I bought 2 briskets for $3.99 a lb a week ago. More than I usually pay, I've got at least 2 in the freezer that I picked up a month or so ago for more like $1.99. But I didn't want to use my less expensive briskets, since my son's company is going to reimburse me for the cost the briskets and the rest of the meal. I am glad they only had 2 left when I picked them up, we had thought about 3, but it was so cold that not everybody showed up. 2 15 pounders turned out to be about right.

I'm watching for deals right now, waiting for one of my sources to have a steer and/or hog ready for slaughter. I've still got a lot of pork in the freezer, but I'm real low on beef. Not used to buying beef from a meat counter.

Stocking up for summer. The grocery store down the street from our retirement home had pork butts for $1.70 a pound, so there are four more butts in the freezer. For six total, here.

Doing some butchering this morning. Got 16 nice strip steaks out of the full roast I grabbed at Costco around the first of the year. About 9oz average per steak for an effective price of $4.65 per steak. Nothing wrong with that in my book.

A local 3 store 'chain' has been advertising a huge meat sale for two days only. I went yesterday and browsed thru the briskets, ribeyes, strips, and noticed very little marbling and that none of the labels had a grade listed. I asked one of their butchers what grade they were and he said "if they have been graded they would show on label." A lot of people won't care, just as long as it was cheaper than Walmart.

I passed on buying any beef but did buy a couple of Smithfield Baby Backs and a nice pork shoulder.

I definitely am being more deliberate about what meat I buy. I'm also really glad I got into vacuum sealing and have that chest freezer. I used to throw out so much food because I didn't have those things prior to about a year ago. Saving food is I guess an effective "hedge" against inflation.

I'm also trying to get more "milage" out of a cut of meat. Skirt steak is going for $8.29/lb near me, but for street tacos, you don't put all that much meat in a single taco. So for a meal I can get by with a 6-8 oz portion of meat rather than easting an entire steak.
