Oh, you don't like eating meat? Let me make you an unhealthy highly processed food that tastes like what you don't like to eat.

Hilariously accurate. To complain about processed food, then to only make something worse.

I purchased a Burger King Impossible whopper once...
It wasn't too bad I guess.

I never purchased another Impossible Whopper again...

I have had turkey sausage, turkey this and that...
I'm not all that impressed by this line of "healthy food" either.

As far as turkey this or that, I found WHO MAKES IT makes a HUGE difference...
Some are even good to the taste. Most, not so much.
If I want turkey, I'll damn well eat turkey. But please don't go calling it "a burger". Burger is short for hamburger (another naming battle right there. I don't taste no ham).

      It's okay... I'm better now.

But I disagree with Master Mosca, turkey bacon should be outlawed. The texture is all wrong. At least for the ones I've tried.

My wife will eat some beef, pork (bacon), turkey. She only consumes turkey burgers. My daughter, not vegan or vegetarian but likes veggie burgers. I tell both of them I can't do them on the grill because they will fall apart. Partially true and I don't want to cook them.

Some of the turkey products can be pretty unhealth, if they grind it primarily out of dark meat and include the skin, the fat content goes way up (low fat is of the main purported virtues of turkey products).

When I have used it, it's primarily been in stuff like spaghetti sauce or chili; never straight up, like a burger patty.

I’m still pissed about almond “milk.”

It always amuses me how exercised you people get over something that doesn't affect you in the slightest like this. Post about fake meat or some vegan thing and it's an easy 40+ posts of outrage and namecalling. But none of us eat this and it doesn't affect us in the slightest that it exists.

Attjack Lance just read the book and he was laughing out loud and constantly asking me if some of the situations were accurate.

If any of you have FB, look up “not my taco”. Its about 10 minutes long and hilarious!

Thank goodness none of us had to deal with the National Prohibition Act of 1919…

Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it.

      Never say, never…

Or, Huskee, one can pause, chuckle and move on. Which is what I'm doing - I'm not offended in the least, but every few weeks someone posts something like this and immediately there are 2, 3 dozen posts that are nothing but snark. Honestly, it's not a great look and kind of intolerant, but, whatever.

PS: Of course all the people so up in arms about fake meat could also take your advice and ignore it. Like I do IRL.

This is why we can't trust fads. Or as we call these things at work that are suddenly super important and management insists we do then it gradually fades away- "the flavor of the month".

ComfortablyNumb, please post a video of YOU using a hula hoop. Oh yea, a monumental moment.

      @ComfortablyNumb

I just said he (@attjack) had a point...
Which I believe that he does in this instance.

Yes, you can still get a hula hoop but there's not a lot of "spin off" in most cases. There's literally hundreds of companies making "fake food" in varying quality and flavors, with various substitute ingredients.

Worse yet, pesticides, antibiotics and other drugs flood our food supply and drinking water.

You want birth control? Have several glasses of tap water...

ComfortablyNumb actual, un-retouched footage of your hula hoop skillz?

I was at some outdoor event several years ago. There were kids, say 8-12yo, that would put this guy to shame!

I think they targeted the wrong people/market. Faux meat that wasn't much healthier (if it was even any healthier) than real meat and costs as much or more is just such a niche product for ethical vegetarians/vegans that still crave meat.

If its cheaper and/or healthier but still tastes good, then it will have a chance to grow, but I still think it always will be a niche market at the end of the day. I don't have an issue with them per se, although have not tried them, but I'd rather eat meat if I want meat or vegetables that tastes like vegetables if I want vegetables - dont really need one to pretend to be the other.

The only advantage to fake food is...

Um. It's not really all that much healthier
Ah. It usually costs more by weight
Oh. It doesn't taste any better than the original.
      .
      .
Someone already rich makes money from it...

      Yeah. That must be it.
      Return on investment...

I think Jim jfmorris said it perfectly, if you want it eat it, if you do not then eat beef. Regardless of what some folks may think there is a larger agenda here and that includes changing what is consumed. My place is just leave me alone and everything will be just fine. But don’t tell me that none of this has an effect on me because I know otherwise.

All this can get crazy. I watch way too much you tube. You can find a beautiful women touting the virtues of being a vegan and with the push of a button be watching a Dr. that looks like a triathlete discussing the fact he’s been on the carnivore diet and will live to a ripe old age. Eat what you like and enjoy the freedom to do so.

I don’t hate on anyone, unless they are a$$-wipes. Two of my dearest friends are vegan. They know how I feel about. They they know I used to work in a butcher shop. Yet, we got along!

              Free markets settle most things…

This industry counted on getting a jump start on forced elimination of livestock saving the planet…

This product will stay in a bottom drawer somewhere, to resurface once the movement builds back again…

Well that was an interesting read. I go back to the question I've always had, if you don't want meat why even go for a product that apes the look and taste of meat? There's lots of GOOD vegetarian and vegan meals that don't rely on any ultra-processed meat substitute. I'd rather have a good spicy black bean burger than a fake meat burger.

Me thinks too many things are being presented as replacements rather than "compliments" to what we have. In other words, a bunch of stuff I ain't buying into.

Never tried it, have no interest in trying it. Maybe there are a lot like me not making a market for it.

It takes all the fun out of killing and butchering.
