I am SO PLEASED! I hoped it would be the memory you were hoping for! The Grandmas was the first commercial one I ever liked after my actual grandma passed. They sell the little 1 lb loafs at the market here and ZI buy them thru out the year.

I may have already shared this in the other fruitcake thread, but I'll tell it here anyway, and I may now know who made the fruitcake in my story. 32 years ago I was in my first year at a church in rural Missouri. A retired banker in the church gave us a fruitcake for Christmas. Great, a fruitcake. Put it on the pantry shelf. Then we had an open house at the parsonage for the church members. We had an overwhelming response. All the goodies were rapidly disappearing. What to do? Wait, there's that fruitcake in the pantry, this will be a good time to get rid of it. So I sliced it up and put it on the table. (It did look really good, and smelled good as well, as I sliced into it.) Then I started hearing people comment on the amazing fruitcake. Thought I should try it myself. It was amazing. Actually, there was so much bourbon in it you could almost drink it. It was made by trappist monks, so it's possible it was a different monastery. All I can say is if you want good fruitcake, try one made by monks.
We got a couple more for Christmas before he died. That was the only one that got shared.

Ive only had the one but there will be many more. The one like Alan Brice has now, I’ve bought many and they take the bourbon wonderfully. A few years ago I wanted to see what the best age was so I bought 6 after Christmas and started soaking them and adding each month. I ate one every couple months and found that the ones I kept an entire year and brushed with bouirbon 12 times was pretty much the same as the 8 and 10 month olds and 2 be honest I liked the 6 month old the best.

I was afraid to change the buttery sweet flavor of the Grandma's. I am on a mission to make fruit cake from scratch.
