An unexpected act of kindness ( Ok, around here its not unexpected)

    Good Day to your all.
If I could take just a couple minutes of you time, I would like to express a bit of gratitude to one of our friends.

Firsts lets get everyone caught up on the story behind this.

A few weeks ago I started a thread about Fruitcake and my love of it. That turned into a poll about fruitcake ( which by the way shows more people like it than not) and some good discussions were had. In my first thread Alan Brice mentioned he was once fond of a certain brand of fruitcake that he could no longer find. Turns out it is made by a company local to me and still very much in production.

I told Alan to send me his address and I would send him one to see if was what he remembered. Not a big deal as they sell some small loaf style ones at the market just around the corner from my house. Alan sent me his address and I promptly contracted covid…..
Fast forward 10 days or so and I am allowed back into the world and at the market to buy a fruitcake to send Alan as I told him I would LAST YEAR!!! As my luck would have it every store I went to was sold out because…FRUITCAKE IS AWESOME…!

Dejected and frustrated I go home to find a package on my porch from some mysterious John guy. Confused I open it hoping its not more canned chili ( different story) to find a fruitcake…I use my deductive reasoning skills to put 2 and 2 together divided by blue and added puppies and came up with Spinaker I reached out to John with a heartfelt thank you ( even though I was bummed he didn’t send me one of those puppies) only to be informed it was our friend Alan getting the jump on me and sending me they most amazing fruitcake I have ever eaten! This thing is like a drug and just a smell of it will start the desire for more more more…..

I then reached out to Alan with another heartfelt thank you! What a gracious man he is! He tells me to thank CandySueQ because she turned him on to this company in my thread!

Alan Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are such a very nice guy and more then just a member here, you are my friend and I am honored to have you as such!

As for this Fruitcake. This damn thing is truly the best I have had and Ive tried a bunch of them. I really like the Collins Street ones I posted in my thread but this is the fancy grownup version of that and..well…my wife dislikes fruitcake and laughs and groans when i keep buying them. She took a little nibble to see what all the fuss I was making was about and promptly cut herself a piece!

Anyway sorry for making this such a long post when really I just want to say thank you to Alan Brice You made my week and well year at this point.

Yum. I am in the “I love fruitcake” camp. It reminds me of my mom who made it every Christmas season. Yum again.

      Awesome story!

I'm glad you got a good fruit cake, and I may look for one of those myself next Christmas season. Right now I am in "cut carbs and quit being so fat and get back to the gym" mode though, so a rich fruit cake is out of the question.

I personally have fond childhood memories of fruit cake made and sent to us every Christmas by my great-aunt's 2nd husband, a German immigrant she married out in Texas, where she lived for decades (Houston area). He was a chef and baker, and made the most amazing fruit cake. I've never had a commercial store-bought fruit cake that was any good, yet loved his, which sadly ceased with his death in the mid to late 1970's.

Now you have me thinking of my great aunt - a character in the family who was the youngest and the "black sheep" of my grandmother's 8 brothers and sisters. She was a WW2 veteran, always the life of the party, and very physically active up into her 90's. Sadly she passed away several years ago.

Glad you got it and are able to enjoy it. I will pass on the fruitcake, but I am always happy when people get something they like!

Nice work CandySueQ and Alan Brice

Figured CandySueQ has a bit o' cred here. That way I could get a review from someone who knows my childhood fav "Grandma's" n first hand taste comparison of Gethsemani brand! Thanks Clay

Thanks Alan Brice! This cake is really good, even if you do put the "fruit" in front of it. I think Clay's description of his wife cutting herself a piece should say something to all the fruitcake haters out there.

I'm just wonderin' why Alan Brice didn't send one to everyone in the The Pit. There's only 17,000 + members.

This is awesome, and an example of what people here do. BTW - just in case anyone is thinkin' of sending me a fruitcake, I am definitely not in the "I love fruitcake" camp.

Fruit cake might be added to the 3rd prize pack of goodies going forward.

CaptainMike glad to see you’re posting. How are you holding up to bomb cyclones and the Pineapple Express.

Oak Smoke we're doing fine. While certainly some decent storm weather it's a bit overhyped and I've seen much worse. It's just been a while and people have short memories.

I am a fan of both the Grandmas and Collins Street. This one is just amazing. Its different in that its got some bourbon in / on it from the beginning so its got a kinda adult flavor with that and the raisins.
I wouldnt turn down one from any of the three but if I had to choose only one its this one.

CHNeal Be sure and wrap that fruitcake in cheesecloth and pour some bourbon or cognac over it. I'm a Hennessy XO fan! Keep it in a plastic bag or in the tin in the frig. After I posted about these I kept going back to the site until they had restocked the cakes. I ordered a 3 pack (one for me in the frig right now! and two for gifts). Don't forget their fudge too! Good stuff. Proud to be a part of this story!!!
