This is the one exception to the sad story of fruitcake. These were extremely useful in ‘Nam to clear potential explosive/mine/IED areas….found in the old C-rat cartons…

There are certainly a lot of bad fruitcakes out there. But some really good ones too. Never had the brand Clay talks about. But my mom made some in the really good category. She made them every year, usually in late October if I recall correctly. She would wrap them in cheese cloth soaked in brandy until the week before Christmas, refreshing the brandy soak once a week. They were wrapped in plastic wrap also to stay moist. So very good.
