    2022 Christmas Dinner Menus!

Well, we are a few days away and knowing this group, I’m sure you all have your planned menu. I just sorted through what I’m going to be making for the holiday - Christmas Eve and Christmas. But what do you all have planned for your menu or what are you bringing to your holiday get together??

For me, we have two days of gatherings. Christmas Eve we spend at my parent’s house and it is New Mexican themed food. It’s set up so that you basically eat all day and it’s wonderful! Ha! Then Christmas is spent at my house and that is when I fix up the spread for the family!

    Christmas Eve

    Carne Adovada
    Posole
    Taquitos
    Tamales
    Chips and my homemade salsa
    guacamole
    chocolate
Biscochitos - a New Mexican shortbread style Christmas cookie
    wine, cocktails and bourbon

    Christmas

    Tri Tip
    Roasted Brussel Sprouts with bacon
    Hasselback Potato Gratin
    Dinner Rolls
Cheesecake - this year it will be a Chocolate Cherry Cheesecake
    Red Wine
and a few cocktails I’ve learned to make over the past few months

That’s the festive menu for my household - Christmas Eve menu is a tradition that has been going for all that I can remember, growing up as a kid and something I always look forward to!

So - lets hear about it! Let us know your menu and traditions that you and your family and friends will be sharing! Looking forward to seeing what all everyone comes up with

Hmmmm, might have to devour a ribeye and some Caesar salad and attempt to go hunting Monday since my steel for my smoker build ordered on the 14th has not even been shipped.

I have a spiral sliced ham from Kroger on deck. $.0.97/lb beats the hell out of Honeybaked Ham, says me.

Not sure. Weather and UAL permitting, we’ll be in the DC area at our son’s place this year. Our DIL is a vegetarian… so there’s that. In an effort to stay in the will, our son is prepping a small brisket for the smoker … so there’s THAT. DIL is not a fan of adult beverages … so there’s that.
Our son is a fan, at least of beer , and he knows that wine comes out of the pointy end of the bottle … so there’s THAT.

Great post. I feel like I've just been watching an updated Chevy Chase holiday movie in my head...

Sounds like you need a project to tend to in the garage during the day….and store a flask or two out there for the adult sippers!

Sounds like DIL is very comfortable with who she is and what she likes. I would be the same way, not ill tempered or spiteful at all, just this is who I am and what I like.

We’ll be going to my parents for Christmas Eve and my mom is planning on making enchilada casserole. She said I don’t have to bring anything over. Hmm…

Spiral ham and all the fixings on Christmas Eve. Christmas Day will be a lunch that will include an assortment of ham biscuits, sausage balls, casseroles, etc. There is homemade bread and biscuits in the mix as well.

More food than we can eat to say the least.

My grandmother and mom used to eat pickled herring, or what they would call rollmops. They loved those things and as a kid…I couldn’t believe they were eating it

Enjoy the great feast!!! Prime rib!!!

Driving back from the kids house, about 3 hours, Christmas Eve. We figured a simple dinner of homemade pasta and sauce with either shrimp or meatballs. Christmas day will be lobster tails. We haven't worked out the sides yet, today's project.

Homemade pasta! You can’t beat it!

Christmas Eve is at the in laws. Christmas Day, simple: prime rib, mashed potatoes, salad, broccoli and cauliflower with cheese sauce.

But we are looking at truly horrible travel weather, heavy rain early then high winds and rapidly falling temperatures, making for icy roads that can’t be pre salted because of the rain. So everything is up in the air.

We are making a pork loin dish with mussels and potatoes and lots of paprika. Our exchange student from Lisbon picked it as a favorite. The mussels were great last time we had them so looking forward to that.

We are also serving our cured reindeer (snicker) that we bought all the way back from Helsinki. We serve that with nice crackers, pickled herring, pickled beets, some jam and maybe some other random toppings. Rudolph should be darn good.

I am making carne asada on Thursday just ahead of the storm as well but that could very well be gone by then. This should be really good as we are using Porter Road outside skirt steak for the first time.

I also have my dry aged prime rib that will be 30 days on the 29th so maybe that can be our New Years cook.

We will be a small group of 4-5 so Christmas Day will be a Beef Roast in the CI Dutch Oven with the usual sides. My SIL who lives in Assisted Living doesn't get Roast Beef very often so I'm looking forward to making it. Maybe Pizza on Christmas Eve?

Our son and family are coming over for Christmas Eve. He ordered a whole pastrami from Katz’s Deli in NYC. The plan is simple. Pastrami sandwiches, wifey’s cheesy potato’s, and a cold broccoli salad. BUT with the pending snow storm here over the next few days there is some question as to when it might actually get here. So 🤞🤞

Just spoke to my aunt up in Shiocton and she is hunkered down awaiting the blizzard of ‘22. They have 2 feet of snow on the ground up there but the Wolf River hasn’t frozen over completely yet.
