Nice place right on the river. It looks like you're having a good time!

Well, as it turns out, my cousin is also doing pork butts instead of brisket for the Monday afternoon, post-kayak-trip, meal. The pulled pork I brought is now gone, after being served for 3 different meals. Sorry for no pix, I was caught up in the moment.

My cousin has a Traeger for his heavy lifting and was up at 3:00 am to get the smoke rolling.

The plate. Pulled pork, pulled pork sandwich, broccoli and cabbage slaw, carrot and cabbage slaw, lettuce salad.

Preston smoked his bone-in pork butts for 10+ hours, spritzing periodically with ACV and wrapped them when they hit the stall. Last 2 hours they rested in a cooler. We agreed, the taste difference between the two cooks was negligible. Both were moist, tender (pullable) and had nice smoke.

Birthday cake for my 84 year old aunt, the grand dame of the Wolf River.

Preston has agreed to smoke a brisket for Wednesday lunch. We’re both going to a local butcher tomorrow to pick it out. Stay tuned.

A vintage Weber gasser at one of the cabins. Yep, despite its looks and being held together with straps, it still works. This is a Genesis Gold C model. jfmorris, got any idea when these were made?

That has the same phenolic side tables and control panel as my 2002 two burner Weber Genesis Silver A. The Silver series was an open cart, the Gold was fancier closed cart. I would say this grill was likely made in the 2002-2006 timeframe?

Looks like the base of the cart broke on the left, or else the caster is missing, causing everything to be all wonky. Those carts were pretty sturdy, so likely just a broken bolt or something.

An obligatory trip to Wittenberg, WI to visit Nueske’s, on FireMan ‘s recommendation, of course.

First heard about Nueske’s while at a NYC breakfast joint. Had no idea WI was the epicenter of smoked bacon.

The small, but delicious, coffee shop that has kept us caffeinated during our stay. It’s a combo coffee shop and hair salon so you can get coiffed and caffeinated simultaneously.

My wife and I had the KC dry aged strip with cognac peppercorn sauce last night. When you go to a restaurant as reputable as Morton’s and come away thinking, "my steaks are as good or better", then you know you’re hanging with the right crowd. Thanks AR community for making me a better cook!

I know the chocolate lava cake has fallen on hard times lately due primarily to John Favreau’s Chef movie, but it was nostalgically delicious last night.
