It's that time of year again, Burger Week when many establishments come up with a special burger and I see how many I can try. I got a late start but have 2 in the books so far. First up was the Bourbon Old Fashioned Featuring Jim Beam.
What It's Called: Bourbon Old Fashioned Featuring Jim Beam
What's On It: A natural beef patty on a toasted brioche bun, topped with melted smoked Gouda, bourbon-braised onions and mushrooms, smothered in an old fashioned inspired bourbon glaze, and garnished with an orange twist.
What They Say About It: Inspired by the Oregon Public House's new craft cocktail menu, this tasty burger mirrors the goodness of the classic old fashioned cocktail with its bourbon glaze reduced from the ingredients of the cocktail itself. You'll want another for the road!

First, they brought me the drink special and it delivered. The Old Fashioned was delicious and I had to order another one while we waited for the burger. They were slammed and actually had to stop taking orders for a bit while they got caught up. Fortunately, we got our order in on time. The burger finally arrived and it was worth the wait. The mushrooms, onions, and bourbon glaze were a sweet umami treat that paired perfectly with their Old Fashioned. I definitely could have crushed it on my own but settled for half and then we took off for our next stop. But when we arrived we skipped Haymaker's Aloha, You Fine Swine burger because there was a line out the door but we may very well try again.
Next up was the Chorizo Beef Burger. Writing this up I now realize I missed out on the drink special at Yard Bar or the Travelling Taphouse as I've always called it. I should have ordered their Beam Whiskey Sour or the Jim Beam Shot and Laurelwood beer special but I was unaware they were offering it so I opted for a Tin Cup Rye Whiskey and a 2 Towns Tropical Cosmic Crisp cider (8%).

It was light out when we got there.
But they lost our order and it was getting dark by the time we were eating. But their mistake ended up yielding us another round on the house and free fries from the cook.
What It's Called: Chorizo Beef Burger
What's On It: Butter-toasted pub bun with chorizo, beef, avocado crema, slaw mix, and cheese sauce
What They Say About It: Custom blended chorizo and beef patty to tantalize your tongue, on top of house made avocado crema slaw mix finished with Pepper Jack, cheddar, and Monterey cheese sauce
Another winner! This chorizo burger from the resident Mexican food cart was excellent. Out of these 2 burgers, however, I'm going to give the Bourbon Burger the edge. There was another burger just across the street but it was late so we decided to hopefully save it for another day.
Today there's a free School of Rock concert in the neighborhood that we want to check out but we will definitely be able to hit one burger beforehand. At the Yard Bar, we ran into another couple that was making the rounds and they had rave reviews for the burger we'll get today and they also liked the burger we passed on because of the line. They said there was a line for them too but that the wait wasn't too long and said the cocktail they offered was worth it.
