If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
When chicken wings are high, I seem to always be able to find a big pack of drumsticks much cheaper, and I just treat those like they are wings! When the kids were young there were years I cooked a TON of drumsticks.
I continue to find good buys on thighs and legs, but the wings are just too much at the moment.
We're on kind of a price hiatus from high chicken prices up here.
At the height of all this a flat of breast were $45 for 6 to 7 pieces, wife brought home flats for $9 but only 5 pieces now.
Still an improvement.
We are not wealthy by any means but up until now, I’ve never been one to pay close attention to prices when buying food. My wife, on the other hand, is fastidious about scoping out prices and doing comparison shopping. Being retired brings a new perspective for all purchases for me. Maybe she can teach me the ropes.

It's completely out of control. 4 ears of corn at my local Publix now costs $6.59! The cost of potatoes, of all things, is ridiculous as well. And now we are told that the US has less than a 25 day supply of diesel fuel, and when asked, the government has no plan to address this. It's going to get much worse before it gets better.
Everyone loves farmers, as long as they provide you with some of the cheapest food in the world. Farm policy for 70 years has been cheap food for everyone, screw small family farms.
Honestly Bogy I’ve never heard of anyone I know blaming the farmers. It’s the other greedy corporations on the other side of the supply line. The farmers/ meat producers are always the ones getting squeezed.
Bogy for the record, I may disagree with you, but I've never, ever, thought you were an a-hole, not even for a second, because you aren't. You are a good man and I think very highly of you.

58limited mentioned this earlier, but rather than make a comment there that might be missed I'll add mine here. I have already stated on several other threads that there is a very good reason why poultry and eggs are expensive right now. Millions of birds were destroyed in Iowa earlier this year due to bird flu. You might only think of hogs or corn when you think of Iowa, but we are one of the biggest producers of chicken, eggs and turkey in the country. I have a turkey in one of my freezers I was going to smoke this summer, then I thought again and I'm saving it for Thanksgiving.
This has little or nothing to do with inflation, transportation, or the price of black pepper. Simple supply and demand. Same as the reason bacon is so high. A year and a half ago millions of hogs were slaughtered and dumped. Packing plants were shut down or had limited staff. Nowhere to go with them. Beef has also been hard hit. Not only Texas, but herds in western Nebraska have had to be culled because of draught. Hard to tell what the overall crop will be on corn and soybeans. Right around one of the places I live in northcentral Iowa crops are good. 30 miles south and 90 miles west where my own house is the area severely impacted by draught starts. Not all the price increases are directed at you personally. Even the farmers with good crops are impacted by fuel prices just like you. Maybe worse if your vehicles gets mileage in miles per gallon, not gallons per acre. Price for corn is high, if you have it, but then you have to factor in what it cost to produce and harvest.
If you live in the city, welcome to farming, and the ministers who hope they don't have to deal with farmers who decided to give up and kill themselves. I've been through that.

Those of us, myself included, complaining about food prices and what everyone needs to do are like barking dogs in cars in the parking lot. We think we're accomplishing something but we're not and we can't. I'll continue to complain though. It too is wasted energy, same as trying to analyze and change the whos whys and wherefores of the world's problems, but at least it makes me feel better.
Mayo costs $7 a jar, a small bag of fresh green beans was $4.95 last time I checked (2 would be needed for 1 dinner for my family of 5), and we can't even find several of the generic brands we used to buy because everyone else scarfs them up.
Sigh... time to get some cheese with my whine, if I could afford the cheese.

I just started going back to the commissary at Fort Meade again after the last time I went to Giant. The prices were getting idiotic. I got wings at the commissary for $1.80/lb yesterday! I also noticed that a pork butt at Giant was going for $3.99/lb! For pork butt! $1.50/lb at the commissary. Thank goodness for being retired Military!
Our local BJ's (central FL) has a 10# bag of frozen Tyson chicken wings for $25.79. I had a $5 off coupon so I thought I would splurge. Haven't bought wings to cook in a long time because of the crazy prices.
Like most of us, I’ve been trying to save a few bucks here and there when I can. I went to Walmart today, which I hate doing, but I was surprised at the price differences between them and Kroger! I go to Walmart usually when I need household products like detergent, trash bags, toiletries etc. and certain items my local Kroger doesn’t carry. I was surprised at just how much cheaper they were on other things too! That exact same Dukes Mayonnaise I was bitching about earlier at Krogers, was $2.00 + cheaper at Walmart. $4.22 VS $6.29 at Kroger. The bag of Fritos Scoops I also complained about being $4.99 at Krogers was $3.97 at Walmart.
I’ll definitely be shopping at Walmart more often. I also used their grocery pickup service over the weekend. I’d never done it before and it’s great. I ordered everything online and picked it up in a designated Walmart parking spot. You can pick your choice of available pickup times, 8-9, 9-10 and so on. When your orders ready they text you. Drive to the store and text them your parking spot number and color of your vehicle. After pulling in, I had my order brought to my truck in 3 minutes! I know this has been around for a while now, but I sure didn’t think it’d be that quick and easy.
Someone needs to genetically cross a stone crab and yard bird. Catch it, break off a wing let it go, and it grows back.. Jerod Broussard can you get on that for us?
