My wife just picked up a box of 5 dozen at Sam's for just under $17, way better deal. They're limiting them to 2 per person though.

I live in California. Egg prices vary widely from $4/dozen at Safeway/Lucky to $11/dozen for the happy chicken/organic/hot tub/massage access birds at Whole Foods and other upscale stores, Try as I might, I cannot taste the difference in cheap eggs to the high price eggs. I like the extra-large and jumbo eggs so that is what I buy at whatever the price.

Huh! I just paid $7.49 for a dozen- at Grocery Outlet!
-
Dick Anderson I had to click on your name to see where you are from. $7.50 at the Groot? (BF and I abbreviated grocery outlet and call it Groot 😜). Makes sense where you live, though. Wow!! That’s like Vital Farms pricing at WF or Bristol Farms/Lazy Acres…. On sale…..

- If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
I have had an old farmer delivering two dozen farm fresh eggs to my door every 2 weeks for the past 15+ years. Currently he is up to $6 a dozen. Used to be about $2 just 5 years ago, and when all the kids were home, I had him leave 3 dozen. Every couple of months he will leave an invoice with the eggs, and I mail him a check. I try to answer the door if I am home, and we talk for a bit. He was delivering for my elderly neighbors since the 70's, but they are now gone, but they turned me on to him.
Considering he is about 85, I am actually kinda surprised he is still making the drive on 3 routes of egg delivery each Mon/Wed/Fri.
I will say that his eggs do have much darker more yellow yolks than the ones I get from the store, and seem much fresher. If we don't use them all before he comes again, we invariably pass off excess to one of our kids, and the grand babies eat the eggs for breakfast.
Once he retires or stops his egg business I'll just go back to grocery store eggs, but we've avoided those for the most part for a long time.

Ethan Chlebowski did a video a year ago entitled "Are Expensive Eggs Worth It?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YY7K7Xa5rE
His conclusion based on taste and effects in cooking was no, there were no differences among the various egg types; however, one might chose more expensive eggs for other reasons.
There is a particular "farmhouse" brand that HEB carries that I tend to pick up. It is more expensive (about $5/dozen), but I find the eggs to generally be very consistent in size, I like the color of the yolks, and the shells tend to be a bit thicker, making it rare I find a cracked egg when I get home (I'm rough on my groceries lol).
The primary reason I buy them is that I can crack them easily and consistently, probably due to the thicker shells. I rarely get egg shell bits flaking off.
Still, I do have an upper limit. If these creep up towards $6-7/dozen, I'm backing down to a cheaper brand.

Cooked two of something that exited a chicken's vent this morning. Nobody in the house complained about the price cause nobody knew the price. Couldn't tell ya what anything costs with food. Rifle scopes are a bit different.

Hahaha. Wonder what would happen with frozen eggs? Would they all explode?
