I'm probably going to get lynched for even saying this, but I'm doing steaks (NY Strip) tomorrow night and my wife and I both like BBQ sauce on our steaks.
I always do the usual: dry brine, rub (Mrs O'Leary's CC this time), and once the steaks are almost done, I put some BBQ sauce on and caramelize it a bit. We love it that way. That having been said, I have been know to enjoy a steak with nothing but a little salt on it too!
So now I'm curious, what's your opinion on steak and BBQ sauce?

I have never done that.... However that being said I'm not going to say I wouldn't be willing to try it if someone served it to me but I'm not sure I could bring myself to actually pour BBQ sauce on a steak I was personally fixing.... Unless maybe it was a cheap sirloin cut or something like that.....
Scotch: Current favorite- The Arran (anything by them), Glenmorangie 12yr Lasanta, sherry cask finished. The Balvenie Double Wood, also like Oban 18yr, and The Glenlivet Nadurra (Oloroso sherry cask finished) among others. Neat please.

Personally it's the last option, but that's my tastes. I say do whatever YOU like, no one else has your tongue. The only sauce I've ever liked on steak is a steakhouse chain in MI called Lucky's has a watery, salty, umami, au jus sauce called "zip sauce" and it's incredible.

I used to do it 40+ years ago when all I had to culinarily impress my eventual everything-must-have-sauce-on-it bride was an old lodge hibachi and a limited selection of condiments in the fridge (one of which was a KC style BBQ sauce). Eventually, as I learned how to choose and grill better steaks, the practice fell by the wayside. There is still the matter of ketchup on hot dogs, though ... sigh ... and tomato juice in beer ... even bigger sigh ...
Putting some kind of sauce on a steak is worse than ketchup on a hot dog! Whatever trips someone's trigger, but, some things are best left alone. It reminds me of the story I heard decades ago of Jackie Kennedy putting ketchup on a steak. It freaked her chef out so bad that one day he served her horse meat instead. She never knew the difference.
A classic line from John Wayne was "ya eat like a little kid, with a lot of sugar & ya know what they do to little kids don't ya, well, tie him up for a whippin ".

I prefer my steaks dry brined and finished with freshly ground pepper after searing. The good quality ones. Steaks like skirt etc I've been known to use chimichurri or a board sauce sometimes. I've marinated steaks in wuster sauce sometimes. Sometimes I use a flavored butter. I like BBQ sauce on ribs though but not on steak. But if you like it than πππ. At least you're not using ketchup! πππ
My sister in law likes gravy on her steak...
I'm a simple salt and pepper kind of guy. Once and a while if I'm feeling a little crazy I'll use truffle salt to add a different flavor to a filet. No BBQ sauce for me, but if you and your better half enjoy it, more power to you!. That's what makes BBQ great, make it the way you like it!
