    New York strip

I just saw on the news where the Texas attorney general wants to rename the New York strip the Texas strip. As a proud Texan it sounded good at first but the more I think about it the more I’m ok with leaving it alone. A rose by any other name you know. We have Texas toast what more could we want?

I knew it years ago as a KC strip - I think the KC and NY are the same thing, as far as I am aware. Both cut from the striploin. Now TX wants to claim them - why? What was the rationale he used to justify the change?

The KC strip includes the bone, the NY is boneless.

It is what it is. I don't know the history of why it got that name but that's what it is. I also think there is a lot going on in TX that needs the AG's attention more than this.

Trust me, no one in Texas wants to re-name the NY Strip…we’re good.

First it’s The Gulf of America, now it’s the Texas Strip?!?! How we supposed to remember all that? What’s next, Texas Clam Chowder? 🥸

Is Texas Clam Chowder served in a cauldron?

That don’t make no never mind to me. I just call them strip steaks. If I’m in a restaurant, I’ll call it whatever it says on the menu. Even if it says Gulf of America strip steak. Who cares. Change this, change that, point to the meat, point to the water. “This one.” “That, over there.”

I like this option. I never understood the difference between NY and KC strips, until someone above said the KC one includes the bone....

The Texas Strip sounds like something I'd order in private before I got married.

If we’re gonna start some naming rights sh!t with New York, we need to put this at the top of the list!

Reminds me of the old Pace salsa commercials from the 90s.

“This stuff’s made in New York City!”

            “Get a rope!”

😂😂😂…🙄🙄🙄 Damn New York dairy cows stealing our thunder!

            From an online article…..

He said that he had recently met with Texas’s association of cattle feeders and cattle raisers – and he bristled when some of them told him their favorite cut of meat was the New York strip.

“New York has mostly dairy cows,” Patrick wrote in his announcement, which noted that Texas leads the US with 12.2m head of cattle. “Just because a New York restaurant named Texas beef a New York strip in the 19th century doesn’t mean we need to keep doing that.

Now, Patrick said, Texas would ask the state’s restaurants and grocery stores “to change the name of this strip of meat the next time they reprint their menus”.

“We want this to catch on across the country and around the globe,” said Patrick, who has been Texas’s lieutenant governor since 2015.

Well that explains a lot. It was the Lt. Governor who came up with the idea, not the Attorney General. Lt. Governors are generally well known to be semi functional idiots. Even Maryland had Kathleen Kennedy Townsend as an example. 😉

In Texas, the way our constitution is written, the real power in government is actually the Lt. Governor although this seems to have decreased some over the past decades. Lt. Gov presides over the legislature and as such wields a lot of power.
