That has to be one of the more disgusting things I've seen.

I've gotten spoiled chicken once or twice over the years. Someone from church gave me two butts to smoke and one of the two was spoiled, but had been in her freezer for 2 years, so nothing to be done about it. I think I had a rack of bad pork ribs that I did drive back and return to Walmart one time.

In no case did I ever see somethign with mold/fungus growing inside the package!

The picture of the label and the issue are probably best here. The store does not want to see/smell that horrible mess.

….and since I have the HMart customer card, they found my receipt and gave me a refund. Know that the staff either speaks Korean or Spanish. A Korean gentlemen helped me at first with a lot of broken English. He waved over another manager who spoke decent English. The look on her face was priceless when she saw the pics. Then she proceeds to school me on that fresh food returns can only happen within 24 hours of purchase. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I purchased the ground beef on Saturday for Monday. 🤦🏼‍♀️

anyhoo…. Got my money back. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

Good deal. Mold comes to mind just based on aesthetics. Definitely a chemistry experiment in the making. Bacteria can easily be killed, spores not so much.

I would not be mad if Meathead or professor blonder weighed in……

Hard to tell from the top picture what happened. Coagulated blood? But there should be no blood in burger meat. Mold? Regardless, you done good tossing it. As for the brown strands, that's probably just oxidation and nothing to be concerned about. Hope they give you a refund.

Thanks for the input. I wasn’t worried about the “brown strands”. That I’ve seen more times than I can count (former butcher shop owner). Especially with skirt steak, etc. when you fold it up for presentation in the case.

I seriously thought it was mold. 🤢
