I used mine for the first time the other night on a strip steak and got identical readings from my Thermapen. I'm happy with the purchase. The alarm notification, however, nearly gave me a heart attack it was so loud.

Yeah I noticed the other day on my Fireboard software I can set the alarm at a different level than my phone is set. I'll have to look and see if I can actually choose a custom tone for that, too, that doesn't change the default on my phone. Would be good if the TempSpike could do that, too.

<edit> Crapola, just noticed the shipping, it wouldn't be here 'till Monday anyways. Darnit.
<edit 2> Ok, I removed it from my cart, searched it out on Amazon, added it back at $80, it automatically applied the discount I had put in earlier, and now it's showing delivery tomorrow, Sept 30th. Odd, but I'll take it...

Actually I just realized.... it still ain't gonna be here in time. I gotta put 3 pork butts on TONIGHT, not tomorrow. lol Oh well... I'm gonna set up my Fireboard to monitor alongside my 2 current TSpikes and keep an eye on progression. I had one of my probes read a lot lower than the other on ambient in the smoker last weekend, I just wrote it off to cool air bubble around the chikkin and placement, but I'll get more info this cook tonight.

1987 Weber Kettle (Still going!)
2004 Cookshack Smokette (The original!)
2012 Weber Genesis (Wonderful for steaks and chops!)
2014 Pit Barrel Cooker (Lovin it!)
Thermoworks Thermapen
Thermoworks Mini Handheld Thermocouple & Meat Needle Probe
Various other wireless remote thermometers
Beer...Bud Light (Timeless)
Just got this. I didn't need another thermometer but I was intrigued by the wireless design and the price was right. I haven't used it for a cook yet, but when heated it up with a hair dryer and checking the ambient temperature against the internal temperature it was spot on. Based on the reviews here it looks like a winner.
The app on my iPhone says the unit won't register an ambient temperature below 122 but I see some screenshots here showing ambient below 122. What's up with that?

Large Big Green Egg, Weber Performer Deluxe, Weber Smokey Joe Silver, Fireboard Drive, 3 DigiQs, lots of Thermapens, and too much other stuff to mention.
I haven’t used mine yet, but one benefit I can see is retiring my wired Chef Alarm over the holidays. The Chef Alarm is great, but it takes up a lot of counter space and the wires are cumbersome.
We’ll see.

The ambient I was reading on my 2 units while smoking pork butts the other day didn't seem right. I assume when they are inserted into a large piece of meat, the ambient 'air bubble' around the cold meat is reducing their accuracy? I don't know... seemed to get 'closer' when it got up close to finishing temp, which would make sense, as the outside surface of the meat would be drying out and closer to the cooker's chamber temp?
I haven't had time to check them against other units this weekend, but that's my working hypothesis - that the ambient temp is too close to the hunk o' meat and may not be too accurate? Maybe if I insert only up to the depth line it will work better.

Glad to see so many people taking advantage of this!
I think this is a great deal and a very good product. Yes, it could use some improvements, I think mostly in the software area, but overall it's great.
I will add one interesting tidbit for those with more than 1 - it does appear the probes are 'tied' to their respective bases...
I had two and pulled one out last weekend, it would not register to save my life. The booster/base was lit up and seemed to be transmitting (the light was flashing), but I got no signal. Deleted and tried to reacquire my probes multiple times. No joy. Then I pulled the 2nd probe out of its booster/base and they both began showing up. So I put the first one back in the base and they disappeared.
Turns out, I had the two probes in the wrong bases - so running 1 probe with the 'incorrect' base, it would not pick up. Now I've got to find a way to mark them to make sure I put them in the right base - especially now that I have THREE of them. Open to ideas.... I considered a little dab of paint on the end of each probe, the outside flat end - but I don't know if paint would affect signal transmission. I could do red, blue and green with corresponding dots for each booster box.
Anyways, just a heads' up for those with more than 1.

Right, with those rings on they won't fit, you'd have to remove them to charge. Not a big deal, but yes, almost anything rubberized will turn black and be indistinguishable in a few cooks. I learned that with one of my thermometers, maybe the iGrill, which came with probes covered in rubberized, colored rubber - that didn't last very long, and there was no cleaning it off, no matter how much I scrubbed.
