Dang! Several cords? Like full cords? That makes me look weak! I was thinking this was maybe 1/2 a full cord of split wood. 🐍 need a home too, just not in my wood pile. Thanks fully in MN all we really need to worry about are harmless Gardner Snakes. Those little guys help us with the vermin, so we have an understanding. Non-venomous so we are good. 💉 Donw

We are suffering from saltwater intrusion in our woodlot and had to take more trees than I would like this year as the saltwater is killing them. I like snakes but I hate being surprised by a copperhead so I do carry a snake stick around woodpiles.

Yeah, that is too bad. Although, I wish I could get some hickory up here, we just don't have it this far north. (There are some that are planted, but very few survive) . We also do not have to worry about Copperheads, so I certainly understand you caution there. Better safe than sorry. Donw

More rounds cut today for some serious splitting to be done for the sauna. This is a mixture of ash, basswood, silver maple, sugar maple, boxelder and willow.

Thanks, the skid makes it easy to move the rounds to the splitting area. I have a friend with a tree business and he brings over any solid logs they cut down. It is a win, win. He has a place to dump the logs and I get free wood delivered to my door. Alan Brice

Might not look like much, but this is about 1/2 face cord (and thus several cooks) of a dead ash tree and a downed apple tree from my dad's place. Most of what's visible is ash, the bright clean looking wood, since we did it second. I used to bow & rifle hunt deer under the apple tree and eat its apples when I was young, it's far older than me, so I'm happy to put it to a worthy ending (kind of a Shel Silverstein thing there - if you know you know) Both were dead and so we hacked 'em up and I saved the usable pieces from both. It will make a nice addition to my dwindling pile of ash, apple, oak, and maple logs.

No storage pics but, we harvested some awesome black walnut today. This is one the way to my buddies sawmill. The large section will be sawn into planks and the smaller ones will be mantel pieces. We should get some awesome figure with the branch inclusions on these logs.

Mostly maple and boxelder. All these were taken out for a new retaining wall project we are working on.

If I bought some property I'd be looking for every black walnut and every sweet gum tree, obviously for opposite reasons.

If you are into hunting or guns try and fine some nice pieces of the black walnut for gun stocks.

Nice score on the walnut. One of my favorite woods to use in my woodworking projects.

Mini wood crib. Needless to say it will be taller than it is wide. That's what happens when leftover metal from a smoker build gets utilized.

Managed to use ALL the 2" square for the base and legs. Next weekend I'll start going vertical with a section near the top for wood chunks. I have plenty metal mesh wire for a wood chunk crib where a penthouse would be located.

Halfway. Still need a top crib for chunks for sausage smoking. Thin splits slide in the vertical just right for everything else.

I just reorganized my wood stash. Main issues I had:

      1. all my oak was on the right (outer) side, meaning some of it was getting wet when it was raining.

      2. I wanted to separate out the odd gnarly bits. They will still be used, but the ones I can chop up directly I want in a separate pile.

So, I spent an hour knocking the dust off of my oak logs, and moved them to be piled up against the wall instead.

The odd bits got piled up on the floor so I can just grab them one at a time during a long cook.

As a bonus you get to see my PK 300 😄

What I'm using for right now. Just a couple rolling carts I got off W00T.

I just moved this over from the main woodpile at my friend's shop yesterday. I'd say it's about... 5% of what we've got out there, which has got to be a full cord to a cord and a half. This is pecan and hickory, there are a couple chunks of cherry in there, too.

This'll be enough to keep me smoking on the The Duck (my new little backyard sizedstickburner) for the 2 weeks I have family here visiting, I'm sure.

Today I've got 2 quartered pork butts (1 MMD+, one korean gochujang) cooking, along with a pastrami flat and point, a couple of chikkins to go on in an hour or two. For my son's 18th birthday party.

Smoke 'em if you got 'em, people!

Those are Woodhaven 5 foot Racks. I had one and decided to get a 2nd because the old firewood hoop I had was in pretty bad shape. I only had a handful of splits on-hand, so I ordered 1/4 Cord of Oak from my usual supplier (Five Star Firewood) - seems the delivery is closer to 1/2 then 1/4 but I ain't complaining!!

          Wer'e pretty lucky

2nd rack makes a big dif...it seemed I had small caches of wood everywhere when it would get delivered. Now, 1/4 cord is easily stacked in the 2 racks and I do not need to wait until I down to my last split before ordering!

Gotta lotta work ahead of me.

I am going to get the splitter fired up this week. I need to get through all of this before sauna season is ready to rock. Lots of stacking to be done. I shoulda had kids to help with all of this. Now I get it.

This is just one of three piles I need to get through. Man o man, we these make for some impressive stacks.

Moved this one yesterday.......I got creative as I was by myself. (Ripley was there for emotional support) It became a challenge and I was too impatient to ask or wait for help. Got it on the trailer though.

I was able to put the legs on skids and drag it across the lawn to the sidewalk. Once on the sidewalk, I put the legs on 2x4's and screwed them to the legs and then to the dollies.

Those stairs were really interesting. I got it to the stairs, then rotated it 90 degrees into the grass. Then lifted the other side on to the stairs, then lifted and moved the other side in the grass. And crab walked it up the hill. The thought, "I am too getting too old for this ____" Came to mind a few times.

I cleared the fence and then it was just trailer time!

Getting it on the trailer was easy......with the dollies attached, I simply rolled it right up! Thankfully, I had that plywood to help get over the expanded steel on the tailgate.

Honestly, I found it satisfying. I had to get creative and I got the job done. No injuries and I proved to myself that, even though I am almost 40.....I still got it.
