Looks awesome Dave! So obviously those dining area windows need to become sliders or french doors that open onto this fantastic new "outdoor living space" (I think that's what the pros call it now). Better start your GoFundMe page now..; )

We explored exactly that, when we first moved in, but it would just be prohibitively expensive. There is a bunch of HVAC ducting and electrical that would have to be re-routed to put a slider in that wall, and by the time all said and done, I was getting estimates well north of $50K for the door onto an enclosed deck about 25% larger than what I'm getting now. Decided something like this was our best option.

Rain has just about stopped for the day, so I got a couple shots in daylight. Not walking onto the muddy grass to get the other angles though!

Hey, I just noticed this wiring in the steps of the deck:

There's some black wiring coming out of the bottom as well as what must be the other ends of the transparent-ish wiring coming out of the top. Maybe that's provided in case one wants to put in some kind of step lighting at some point... there is no power hooked up to that wiring, that's for sure. I'll find out soon enough what it's meant for...

Cool! I’m thinking that’s gonna be the wiring for your electrical outlet. Didn’t you say earlier that the code required it, or something along those lines?

Maybe they came from the basement n took the supply under the deck to where the outlet will be. I would have thought they would have tapped into the supply on the other side of the brick before they got the structure built. Just watching n keeping my trap shut.

Alan Brice No chance of that Alan, the breaker box is in my office down in the basement, I know they didn't tie in to anything. I'm just gonna email a photo to my project manager and ask

Panhead John The plan calls for the power outlet on the opposite side of the deck - it would make no sense to have wiring for the outlet in the middle of the steps. Gotta be something else. We'll see what the PM says.

Here's what the jacks look like on the thin wires. The black wire is just some medium gauge copper strand, your basic.

Looks to me that your contractor has included some sort of low voltage step lighting and maybe edging light as well.

And here's the finished deck! Electrician is coming tomorrow afternoon to scope out adding the outlet, and hopefully that can be done in short order. Then the last step is get the county inspector out here to sign off, before I can move stuff on there. No biggy, I am so far ahead of the game - didn't expect any action on this for a couple more months.

They buried a power lead to come up at the edge of the stone patio, just a short distance from the existing power outlet (where the Pit Boss pellet rig currently sits), and mounted the control box to the wall where you can select the mode between dusk-to-dawn, dusk-to-set the hours, or straight manual. They look purty

(The other cable is the TV line to the basement)

Once I get everything on the deck, I'll get the patio power-washed to get rid of as much of the staining as possible from spills and such. The grill mats and utility table for the deck arrived today, so I'm ready to go once inspection is done.

How exciting! Now tell the truth, did you wake in the middle of the night and go outside to look at it with pride? That's what I would have done, were I in your slippers.

P.S. Did you give us a link to the NSF grade SS utility table you chose? I seem to remember it from somewhere but can't find it.
