    I would really like to see more hands on stuff. Maybe we could have teams make the meals, with Meathead giving tips and maybe setting the direction. We could all learn a lot from Meathead as well as the other participants.

      In addition to Malcolm Reed I would consider contacting Mark Lambert (Sweet Swine O Mine) and Heath Riles (Victory Lane). They both live in the Memphis metro area.

      I live about 10 minutes away from Memphis so I'm PUMPED for this meatup!

      This is a little off topic, but semi related and the BBQ contest was brought up... Ever think about doing a vendor booth at some of the bigger national contests? Memphis in May, American Royal, etc

        How am I just now noticing this????? Okay, I'm in. All the ideas above are awesome. And, since we are in Memphis, it would be great if we could get one of the Memphis area pit masters to put on a "Memphis style ribs" demonstration/class.

        Two things:

        1. Is this the first Meatup? If not, what did you guys do last time?

        2. I'd love some tastings where I could see what the best of the best tastes like. Like when I created the KC sauce from amazingribs.com, I wasn't sure what it was SUPPOSED to taste like so I wasn't sure if I was off or close or spot on.

          While a good point, some of them involve ketchup or mustard and that's going to be different based on Hunts vs Heinz, etc.

          But really, I'm more curious with the meats because of the variation based on all the different factors Meathead lists: heat, time, meat, humidity, etc

          Earlier this year the very first Member Meat-up was in Green Turtle Cay, Bahamas, back in Feb. So Memphis next year will be the 2nd annual Meat-Up. To see all the excitement from that occasion, see it's topic....

        Bummer, just renewed our tickets to CMA fest which is the same dates. Living in Nashville, Memphis would have been great. Oh well, maybe next time!

          Wow just saw the post for this Meat-Up, looking forward to it, live in Olive Branch just outside Memphis. I'm definitley on board!! Too bad the dates couldn't have been the 3rd weekend of May when the World BBQ Championship is going on. If you never been to it you are missing out. It is the largest Pork cooking competition in the world with over 250 teams from all over the country and many other countries, and over 100,000 in attendance. Fantastic event on the banks of the Mississippi River. Of course it would be harder to find hotel rooms at that time, especially at the Peabody. Can't wait to see all of the events and seminars at the Meat-Up. I'm going to make sure I make my vacation plans around those dates for next year.

            Sounds like a possible Road Trip for me and the wife 16-17hrs. We did Nashville, Memphis, Lynchburg trip in 93. A lot of driving but an awesome trip. I highly recommend a side trip to The Jack Daniels Distillary it was a lot of fun and very informative.

                I'm all in on this one. Go_ willing, Homey is crushing Memphis and perhaps picking up Mr. Bones on the way. One never knows.
