I have conferred with Chief CaptainMike and she has granted me permission to attend. I didn't even have to use the "June-7th-is-my-birthday" argument!

Use the "June-8th-is-my-birthday" routine on her!

Fortunately I live in Memphis and am helping put it together so I got to save my "June 7th is my birthday card" as well! We'll have to plan an all meat birthday cake for us...

This just might happen! I ran it past the CEE (Chief of Everything... I said Everything!) and got a very Scoobie Dooish mmmmm??? response.

CEE...😆 I remember the day when Ozzie came home from work and the little misses brought him the newspaper and a cocktail. These women have figured out how to get our ass off of the couch, made us pour our own cocktails and ask permission to buy BBQ gear.🙈

Do you all really have plans that far out in advance? June of 2018??? You can ask off work that far in advance??

As soon as dates are confirmed "I'll be walking in Memphis". I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone and having a great time.
All of the suggestions for actives so far are pretty spot on. But as Meathead said we need to keep it simple so everyone can experience everything and not be too overwhelmed.
      I for one am excited.

Great Meathead Can you post more info on Peabody? Address, website ect... I know a bunch of us will want to know. Thanks.

This should work. I love this this idea. Mostly I'd love to get my hands on a lot of the different cookers we see discussed here. Especially the off sets. And I love the idea of seeing all our pit friends demonstrating their specialties.

Let's print out the "what are you drinking right now thread" and paste it to the event.

Lol, that is my full 4-night weekend to work. The beauty of my work schedule is it's repeating so I know long in advance what nights I work, for planning purposes such as this. The bad thing is my full weekend always seems to come when there's something else. Not sure I could burn up 48hrs of vacation in one stretch... Maybe Mr Huskee will plan on 2019...

Try to switch with someone. There's enough time. Bribery can work. A brisket and some pulled pork may sweeten the pot. Hey you never know.

Steve B I'm going to try for sure. But, 'Hey does anyone want to work 4 extra shifts this week, oh and they're all night shifts' is not going to be an easy sell. Rest assured I'll try...if I have 48 hrs of vacation time that is. I have hurdles with this one.

Why do you have to take vacay? Can't just switch days? You could do one day at a time over the next year!

I am defiantly in. Do you think TSA will let me check a KBQ?

This will be a great time. I think a seminar on breakdown of a whole hog would be very informative. Especially focusing on BBQ cuts.
I like the idea of taste testing and showing off different cookers in action. I am not sure where we could set this up, but this would be a blast for everyone.

Another thing that would be cool would be a Memphis-BBQ tour. Maybe that is what the bus tour on Sunday is. But I would like to see a bunch of the famous BBQ joints in Memphis. Eat some great que, listen to the blues and hang out with my fellow Pit members. Sounds like a great MEAT up to me!!

It would be fun to have sweepstakes giveaway(s) AT the event. Or a giveaway for attendees.

Sponsors of the event (if the are so inclined) could have their product as prizes.

Maybe try out the Eggfest approach and get a few corporate sponsors to donate equipment that gets sold at a discount after first use? I suppose shipping could be an issue though.

How about knives, sharpening, and maintenance? I have several contraptions that give mixed results, but not what I get from the sharpening shops.

The more I think about it, the butchering idea, the more I like it. Probably not whole animals, for me anyway. But maybe stuff like getting one of those huge 30+ lb chuck rolls at Costco/Sam's, and how to effectively cut into many roast. Or removing the gland from the lamb shank. You know,... Tips and Tricks.

I'm a fan of the idea of buying a whole loin and custom cutting it myself. This is a great idea.

We are still trying to figger out what our costs are, so no price point yet, but the goal is break even, so we will not be gouging.
