It is with great reluctance and a heavy heart that I announce that NC has fallen from BBQ grace according to Eat This, Not That! No more meat-ups here, obviously.

I'll post some reviews of the BBQ places I visit. I'll have to figure out where they go on the forum.

While we’re here, I just wanted to say what an absolutely great time I had with everyone at the NC MeatUp! Hell, even DavidNorcross turned out to be an ok feller….😉 Wayne, thanks again for putting this together, an absolute blast! Great food and even better people. For anyone who’s been considering a MeatUp but hasn’t been able to attend, there will be more, I’m sure of that. Try and make one. I was also impressed with the friendliness of everyone I met outside of our group….hotel staff, restaurant employees, etc. Wayne picked a great spot for us at the Hampton…first class all the way, without first class prices. I was also able to experience some beautiful sights along the way, some in person and some just through the windshield. Even though I’m tired as hell right now, I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Anyone considering a MeatUp, just do it, you won’t regret it! Thanks again Wayne and Mari Jo!

Well stated, John. It's not the last meatup, it's just the latest meatup.

Thanks for the kind words PJ. It was my pleasure (in my best Chik Fil A voice).

Panhead John you're all right in my book, and everything you wrote here is a 100% true! What a cool Meat Up that was! I'm looking forward to the next one I can attend. Next time, I'm bringing Princess!

I rolled out of Durham around 9:00am Wednesday morning, just wanting to get a few miles in, and didn’t even gas up before hopping on I-40. I was reliving the Meat-Up as I drove, and wondering what was happening at "our" Hampton Inn. Was some other group making memories on our patio? Had they re-arranged the furniture? It’s right off the interstate and there’s a BP station on the corner, so I decided to check it out.

Our banner was gone, but nothing had replaced it.

I stopped by the front desk where I had met WayneT and teased him about not recognizing me even though I was the only one who did a video introduction. I STILL think it’s a great idea. I assume Wayne announced my arrival because a minute later Panhead John was there to shake my hand and introduce himself.

This is the breakfast area where we sometimes hung out. Last weekend it was much busier.

It was a beautiful, cool morning just like the ones we enjoyed, and the patio furniture was back where it belongs.

I peaked around the corner to the left of here, hoping to find PJ and ItsAllGoneToTheDogs having a smoke, but no one was there.

I can be a sentimental old fool, and about this time I got a little teary-eyed. I spend most of my time with my wife, my only brother (out of four) that lives in the area, and one close friend that I see a couple times a week, but last weekend I felt like I had 25 new best friends.

It wasn’t just a great time, it was the best time I’ve had in years. Thanks everyone.

To back my brother RonB and prove it happened:

When I was planning this trip, Ron and I PM'd a little and he gave me some thoughts about where to go and what to see in Virginia. I said Monticello was at the top of my list of places to see and Ron suggested he and I meet for lunch at the Michie Tavern ( https://www.michietavern.com/ ) in Charlottesville after my visit. MT is a neat old building and restaurant that serves a buffet of foods that were common in colonial times, with the star of the show being fried chicken. Great food, great old structure, and great company!

If anyone ever makes plans to visit Monticello, you should consider adding Miche Tavern to you itinerary. It's a fun experience with great food. It's normally crowded on weekends, but still worth the trip. It's not normally crowded on weekdays, but that's not guaranteed.

Monticello—home of Thomas Jefferson, 3rd US President (POTUS3). Author, Declaration of Independence, VA Statute for Religious Freedom. Founder, University of Virginia. World Heritage Site, Charlottesville, VA. Daily tours.

Glad you guys re-connected up the road. As you said once yourself, CaptainMike , “that’s what this is all about”.
