Why wasn't I warned to just stop after buying the 22" Weber?

I don't know.. Just thinking 6 grills later (having given away 3 and sold some before now having the 6) I'm just looking at all the possibilities along with all the accessories I've gotten (and the ones I don't have and the endless mods) for the Weber 22 in and thinking.. "why didn't I just stop with that unit?"

Every time I look around there's an accessory made for it that would yet again alleviate one of the grills I have... I mean what is it that can't be done?

    1. Slow and Sear, or smokenator
    2. Santa Maria attachment- Gabby's grills, bbq pit boys and others
    3. Arteflame and stainless steel griddle that's shaped exactly like the Arteflame..
    https://www.amazon.com/Skyflame-Stai...words=Skyflame
    4. Vortex, others
    5. Carson Rodizio Brazillian bbq kit
    6. bbq guru, flameboss and others
    7. Pizzaque kit, kettle pizza
    8. Pellet attachment-http://www.americansundancer.com
    9. Weber rotisserie kit, ribolator and others
    10. SmokeEZ, Kettle ring, Cajun bandit
    11. If you really want to turn the kettle into a brick oven- https://tn-sd.com/product/the-relic-...ing-brick-oven
    12. You can even turn it into a gasser if you wanted to buy the cheaper model as an extra -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXNv9LhXt64
    13.Tip Top Temp
    14. Bbq Dragon grillstone
Maybe it's time to empty out??...

Hello, my name is Tim & I am a Weber Grill addict....5 so far (not to mention the PBC's and others). And I've given away two others I bought on sale as gifts. So I feel your pain. But thanks for listing all the accessories I don't yet have (and I have many)!

I mean 5 minutes of surfing the pit and you should have known accessory purchases is a bottomless pit.... Once you start down that rabbit hole.... well good luck.

BTW and FWIW: I highly recommend the Slow’N’Sear with Drip’N’Griddle and their Stainless Steel spinning grate. For the money that is the best kettle accessory package purchases to help you get the most versatility and efficiency out of your grill IMHO.

Yeah. On the other hand, for $350 we aren't that far away from a dedicated pellet grill.

Wow, I didn't even know some of those accessories existed. That said, I have the SNS and DNG, and a full set of Grillgrates for my kettle, and am so pleased with my ability to cook just about anything well on that set of gear that I decided against further kettle accessories. At one point I wanted the rotisserie, but really don't see how rotisserie cooked chicken, pork loin or beef roast is going to be significantly better than what I can get cooking indirect. And then you have the problem of how to put a thermometer in it!

I'm saving my budget for different types of cookers. Got gas, charcoal, and offset covered. Next is a pellet smoker or PBC.

Dang it guys now you all have me thinking of a rotisserie for my Performer! Certainly cheaper than another cooker...

I LOVE rotisserie birds--also it's a great way to do thighs (think Huli-Huli), pork tenderloin, and other small items. All you need is yet another accessory--the rotisserie basket. They're cheap.

Get the rotisserie. Just got mine a few weeks ago and have 2 chickens and a leg of lamb under my belt. Can't be beat for ease of use.

S&S, ABC griddle, Vortex, and rotisserie. Those are the four I have.

The S&S is essential, IMO. No question, it unlocks the possibilities of the kettle like nothing else.

I'm really happy with the griddle. I got it as an afterthought, but now I make breakfast on it a couple times a week. Not essential, but useful, and a good value to boot.

I lived for years without a rotisserie. It's a different gestalt, moving the food to ensure even cooking and distribution of juices. I like the results, but it is an investment. Once you have it, you're not going to do a roast or a bird without using the rotisserie; there's no point to choosing to ignore that on which you spent $150. You buy it, You live with it. Not necessarily a good value in the short run.

Of the four, the one I could do without is the Vortex, but it is also the cheapest, and they send a bottle of really good rub along with it. So, not essential, but good value.

OH: special mention for the Tip Top Temp. It was cheap, but I've never figured out how to use it. Maybe some day, but for now, all long cooks take place on the BGE.

I have #1-7...I am going to try the fried chicken thingy on the Vortex next week but like you said so far that one I could've stopped at bc of the SNS. I almost bit on the TTT but think it's covered with the digi-q. The brick oven converter looks pretty but sure is very pricey...

My 22” served me VERY well for 10+ years. The only reason I got an offset smoker was because I wanted to cook for a crowd.

I do most of my outdoor cooking in a 22" kettle. I just got rid of one I never did any work on in fact. With a few mods, if you're just cooking for a single family I'm not sure you would ever need anything else. For me, I enjoy getting the most out of a single piece of equipment rather than having a ton.(My backyard doesn't really encourage a ton of equipment anyway. The Slow'N Sear is super nice. Also have the corresponding griddle which is also super nice.

Whenever I entertain, I always get comments like, "Man, you really make the most of that thing. I can't believe you do all this on a kettle." That's definitely cool to hear. And when I'm advising anyone who wants to start down this path: "Kettle + SNS. Start there." It's relatively cheap, you can even find used kettles pretty easily. (Too easily.)

With that said, I just picked up an 18" WSM that I've started to modify as well. The reason? Capacity. And when I entertain I like to cook a lot of different things, so... I have two more grates now. For big productions or traditional BBQ (I usually do a mix with sous-vide most of the time) this is a better setup.

It's also nice to smoke a bunch of burgers in the WSM and then grill them on the grill—one of the only times I'm not using my SNS (again, capacity).

I'm kinda hoping I stop at two cookers or perhaps swap them out. Kamados intrigue me, but... unless I was doing a lot of outdoor baking I can't see the investment being worth it. Offset smokers (or even better, a Karubecue) are about the only thing I would consider adding just because, they produce something different than I can achieve on my current equipment. I'm just not sure the money and space is worth it. Kettle + SNS + sous-vide opens up a brave new world of food.

A kamado will not get you the capacity you need, not even the Komodo Big Bad. Your next step is definitely an offset. And, I wouldn’t necessarily call this MCS, because it is responding to a legitimate need, and the offset doesn’t replace the smaller cookers for intimate gatherings.

Mosca Ha. I think the combo of my Kettle and WSM should handle pretty much anything I deal with right now. If I opt to go offset, it's likely gonna be a KBQ (is that technically an offset?).

        EdF asking for a friend...

"They" had been eyeballing a smaller ceramic cooker.. Would you say to "them" that it's worth getting a smaller unit just for being able to tinker around or not? Is the small real estate not worth getting the unit??
I know "they" were looking at a small Vision ceramic cooker and an Akorn Jr. (not really ceramic I know)

Timcee I have a regular size Akorn so that I could figure out if I truly liked a kamado before dumping out the investment of a ceramic cooker. I believe it was around $250 which is much easier to spend on an experiment. I would definitely not get a smaller one as a dedicated smoker just like Ed stated.

raven I've always wanted to tinker around with one but with all the cookers I have I'll just have to live vicariously through you guys. Wish there was a store that you could play around with whatever cooker you wanted for a day or more than my list would've definitely been smaller.

I have both the Akorn and Akorn Junior. I love both of them. And don’t even get me started on the accessories for them! The Akorn Junior is perfect for a searing station, or for personal size pizzas. You really need one! 😜😜😜😜
