22” Weber Kettle SS hinged grate?

Rust never sleeps on the Gulf coast. Plated steel grates are dusted fast! πŸ™„ I’m looking for a good SS hinged grate that is solid! When I google that, I get many hits in SS but the drop down description says plated steel. πŸ™„ When I find a few (SNS, only fire,…) reviews say warpage and weld breaks can be a problem. Any one have a 22” SS hinged grate they are happy with!

I have the SnS SS grate for 1+ years and so far so good.

smokenoob I've used and abused two of the Easyspin 22" grates from SNS and yet to see a weld break. I run the Vortex under one of the original ones from 2017-2018 timeframe, when the hinged part was detachable (read - always falling off when inconvenient). The one in my kamado is from January 2021, and is holding up, but has closed loops on the hinged part. Neither has broken a weld to date, after much use.

I did receive an elevated cooking grate from SNS with a loose weld on the end of one bar, but it was promptly replaced after emailing them a photo of the issue. It was like that from the factory, and the replacement has not had issues in 5 years.

We used to have more options, but that one company that made some real heavy duty SS grates went under a year or two back.

Good choice! I’ve had 3 SNS kettles over the years, all with their EZ Spin grate. Never had any issues at all, even with frequent use above my Vortex.

I have the Slo n Sear one which is holding up ok.

I also have another, made of thick SS, that I really like. But unfortunately, that company went out of business.

I think the other grate you referenced is a KillaGrilla grate. I bought one for a Weber Jumbo Joe six years ago...the grate weighs about the same as the grill itself. Super heavy duty. T'was a shame when they went out of business.

Hunsaker makes some really nice quality grates too. I ordered a few items from them for my WSM 22 and really like the build quality and customer service is top notch. I even spoke with the owner a couple times (called his cell) with some questions after purchase. They make a heavy duty and a super heavy duty grate for the 22" kettle.

smokenoob I mean it does weigh 11.2lbs. The lighter 5lb ones are sold out. I do see they have the Super Heavy duty version for my 26" kettle that weighs a modest 13lbs. Go big or go home, right? ;D

I hear ya. Our coastal salt and humidity are the primary reason I bought the PK360. Cast aluminum and kept covered. Even then, the powder coat is taking a beating.

After 45 years in Florida, I have seen just about everything the weather can do. Not sure what’s more damaging, the sun, or the humidity. I still love it. 😎

late to the party, but I've got the SnS hinged ez spin grate. It has stood up to WA state weather just fine for the past 4 years :-)

Another vote for the SnS Easy Spin. Actual SS and a larger hinged (and removable) section for use w/ the SnS.

My 22” SNS SS hinged grate came in, really like it! Thanks pitmasters!
Time to throw a nice Tri-Tip on and test it out!

turns out what was on there was a KillaGrilla grate Onez mentioned. It isn’t hinged, need to find another use for that! Click image for larger version

My SnS Easy Spin grates have held up well but I noticed that if I use the Vortex at full blast it can cause the grate to rust a little. I bought the Weber grate with the removable center to use with the Vortex. It is plated but has held up since I only use it with the Vortex and not regular grilling.

Ah, I’ll save my killagrilla grate for the vortex use and spare the thinner SNS grate.

I have had to replace an SnS grate under warranty because of popped welds. I use the old one when using the vortex.

Donw I was happy to see the 10 year warranty on the SNS and automatically enrolled through amazon. I’ll keep the KillaGrilla for the vortex!
