Roll Call πŸ₯πŸŽΊ Weber 70th Anniversary Kettle Owners

Welp, my kettle is laying down her prom sash. She has been in serviceable condition for a while but I added up the cost of replacement parts and some
other accessories and they approach the MSRP of a Mastertouch which comes with the baskets and grate with the hole in it, not to mention the lid cradle. Being sentimental and nostalgic for the weber kettle my pappy cooked on I was looking at the 70th anniversary edition. There are many here that would extoll the virtues of either the SNS or the Mastertouch. So tell me which cooker to buy!! I have basically made up my mind and there is going to need to be some very persuasive arguments made to get me to zig when I plan to zag. For those of you that own a Anniversary edition tell me how it makes you smile! This is really just to satisfy PJ who demands due process before the grand pronouncements of a few too many and a new cooker shows up. Post your cooks! For me the kettle is where it all started. All my pittswomanship was learned tending the enameled UFO. All of my very best cooks have been in the kettle to date. OK Play Ball!! πŸ”₯πŸ”₯🐿️

MsTwiggy, ah the 2002, the model that solidified BMW's foothold in the Americas. Iconic cars need memes, two for your past love.
Rust was standard equipment on 2002's.
You couldn't tell if it was going forward or backward because of the styling.

MsTwiggy and Uncle Bob I drove my little 2002 until my foot went through the rusted floor. I even had a little hand crank sunroof. I loved that car!

Well I’m glad SOMEBODY around here is playing by the rules….even though it seems to be more of a courtesy gesture than asking for genuine advice……πŸ₯ΈπŸ˜‰

I have a Killa Grills β€œeasy spin” stainless grate, SNS, Arteflame insert, the SNS warming rack, the titan outdoor Santa Maria grate, vortex, half moon grill grates, and a cast iron grill grate that I don’t really use. All in I am sticking with a 22” format. πŸ”₯πŸ”₯🐿️

You may want to check that the Santa Maria will even work on the SnS given that the rotisserie won't. If it doesn't, that makes the choice pretty easy. Honestly it sounds to me like the Weber is where you're heart is and no amount of gizmos and gadgets will change that. MsTwiggy

I don't think all the Weber accessories will fit on the SnS grill. I hope someone else will have more definitive answers.

Ron is correct about the rotisserie from Weber not fitting the SNS. I’ve had both Weber and my current SNS kettles at the same time. Had the Weber rotisserie and it wouldn’t fit correctly on the SNS. Even if you were to get the SNS kettle, that’s the only accessory I see that wouldn’t work on it.

Panhead John I had expected some selling points for the SNS. What is the ash catcher made of on it? Is it also aluminum? πŸ”₯πŸ”₯🐿️

Yes ma’am, it’s also aluminum. They’re pretty similiar, except for the way you install and remove them. The SNS is a little bit easier to remove and put back in place, but not a game changer.

Hot Rod Yellow… solid cooker. Love it.,, gorgeous to look at plus cooks well and all the accessories fit.

Great design all the way around. No chintzy Chinese vents, etc. Mostly made in the USA.

ach, I can’t say everything I want to say in here. But the SNS has very little appeal to me.

You may have to look around for a 70th anniversary kettle. I don’t think weber.com is offering them any longer. With your heavy accessories you may want to get a kettle with a table like YouTube’s Cooking with Ry made a video about.
I still favor my 1999 red 22” so I get your nostalgia.
My 70th is too pretty to use.

I rarely use my Kettle these days, but cannot bid myself to part with it. I may amend my will with instructions that I be buried in it when my time comes.

I use my kettle all the time, even with the OJB and the Panzerschwein. If i want to grill steaks or veggies I will probably always fire it up before the others. The kamado will be used for pizza, baking, long burn times at low temps, and rotisserie. I’m not sure what I will do with my OJB. This time in my life with little kids I need fast and versatile and the kettle serves that up for me. Maybe that will change. . . πŸ”₯πŸ”₯🐿️

I use my kettle way more than my komado. Much more flexible plus all the accessories I have for it. I think I will be adding the Asante Maria this season.

They really are cool looking kettles! I’m not gonna try and sell you on the SNS. πŸ€“ I really think you should get whatever you like. While I like my SNS kettle, the only feature that I see benefiting you is the attached side tray, but it looks like you’ve got that part already figured out. Go for it Twigs! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

I bought a Hot Rod Yellow model when they were at close out pricing (a fair bit below the similar featured Master Touch). I've only cooked on it two or three times as my Performer is on the patio for quick, "utility" style cooks. I think of it, for now, as waiting in reserve for those times when needed.

Love my standard MT Kettel in Black with all the accessories, I wish I had the Weber Performer because of the table. IF I was starting all over, maybe I would get the SnS kettle with all the accessories. I have never cooked on a Santa Maria attachment on the kettle. I too started on the Weber kettle. So, with my emotions in charge, go for the Weber in the color of your choice.

Yep, it's the KJ Slo Roller portion from their late attempt at a kettle style product. It actually works very well for smoking giving the full belly area for fuel arrangement and full grate for food array. A while back they offered it as a stand alone accessory (fits 22" profile perfectly), but last I saw it was out of stock.

Uncle Bob does it allow you to have higher volumes of fuel while keeping the food a safe distance from the coals? πŸ”₯πŸ”₯🐿️

MsTwiggy Yes, compared to other smokeresque attachments, though there is an aftermarket product that looks similar to the KJ divide and conquer for the Weber that might be close to the same capacity of fuel, though it won't likely be as effective in diverting the heat/smoke in as convective a manner.

I like having both a kettle and a kamado. Each does what the other can do, but sometimes I’ll do different proteins and need different methods; ribs on the BGE, chicken thighs on the Kettle. And burgers on the griddle!

This happens less often now that it’s just me and Mrs, and we just don’t eat as much as we used to. But I like just knowing that I could do it if I wanted to.

I am still learning the Kamado but i like how fast the kettle is. With a little planning I can give the kamado time to heat but it’s not exactly an impulse cooker. The griddle does a great job with brugers!! πŸ”πŸ”₯πŸ”₯🐿️

Well said. When I was still working, I would come up the stairs to the deck, start the chimney, then go change out of my work clothes. Well before the burgers went on, the chimney was ready. Folks who say charcoal is slow, they’re the ones who prep everything and then go start the chimney.

Mosca thats right! Timing when you light the charcoal and prep food are basic things to manage. The lighting calculus gets easier with experience. πŸ₯ΈπŸ”₯πŸ”₯🐿️
