Do I need the Ranch Kettle???

Hey guys. My lineup currently includes: WSCG, Crimson Performer Deluxe, Jumbo Joe 18in, and 36 in Weber Griddle. Over the next year I'm building an outdoor covered kitchen that will likely include a NG built in gasser of some sort and prep area.

Yet for some reason I am obsessing over the idea of adding a Ranch Kettle. I am recently divorced and live alone except when I have my three kids with me alternating weeks. My folks visit frequently. But I love to entertain and do medium to large cooks.

I've thought of whether I'd trade out the performer or even the WSCG for the ranch but I just can't bring myself to do it! Feels like choosing which kid you love the most 😂

Somebody please talk some sense into me!

Being the seasoned enabler that I am, I vote for keeping everything and adding the Ranch Kettle to the arsenal.

You know who you're talking to, right? Of COURSE you should get that kettle! No reason to make any Hobson's choices. Indulge that MCS!

Being it's Saturday and all...of course you should get a Ranch Kettle.

What else do you need to cook 1 hot dog on beside the Ranch as per Justin of the Baby Back Maniac of YouTube.

I miss his videos. Putting the temp probe in it was great.

Because the alphabet begins with A and ends with Z, I think you need to get that Ranch!

I’m gonna catch some flack here, but you don’t need it, and don’t even think about selling the Performer or WSCG. If you really, REALLY want the Ranch, at least wait for a bargain on a used one.

Exactly! We expect exaggerations and outright lies.

I'd just wait for the Ranch Kettle WSM.

I call my 26.75in weber kettle with the smoke-ez insert a WSMXLT..

I would strategize around that outdoor kitchen you are building. I built a grilling hut and now my cookers have outgrown my hut. When you build something like that you either plan to remain constant with no room for new cookers or you way overbuild so you can continue to scratch your MCS itch.

Well you already have the same charcoal cooking area as a Ranch Kettle, plus more versatility in that it is spread over 3 units. The Ranch Kettle will use exponentially more charcoal, seeing as how there will be more circumference to cover relative to the cooking area.

So, add the ranch kettle if you have room for it and would rather have the unit instead of… $1850. Or, you could add 3 22” kettles (for the same cooking area) and buy meat with the leftover $$.

Well these good points though buying a used Ranch would certainly help with the cost-benefit equation. Of course, if you are ready to drop nearly 2k, why not just go for a LSG?

Many great points and sensible. But...a really big ass new grill....

If you can find a good deal on one, go for it. But I wouldn't get rid of any of your current lineup.

I had this same urge once when I stumbled across a Craigslist ad for a brand new floor model at $699. I rigged it up with a BBQ Guru fan controller and it was the best brisket cooker I had. Alas, the new eventually wore off after a few years and it was taking up too much garage space for the amount of use it got, so I sold it for just a little less than I paid for it.

Here she is in action when I was asked to cook some butts for one of my wife's coworker's wedding reception.

Funny you mention that, Sid P . With all the stress of getting it all just right, I forgot to add one more for us at home.

This line if questioning is crazy talk, of course you should buy it. But only after you have landed on a proper name for it.

Disclaimer: Hi, My name’s John and I’m addicted to BBQ cookers.
