    So I've joined the cult.

Just got back from a 2-hour round trip to pick up a kettle.

Been lookin' online for a couple of weeks to see if anyone puts up a Weber kettle, been pretty slim pickins around these parts. Seems I see TONS of Weber kettles in other metros 2+ hours away, but nothing locally except the little 14" portable tailgate style ones.

Well this mornin' I decided to give a quick search again on FB Marketplace and saw one up there - took a quick look and the pics weren't great to get a good look at it, but it LOOKED like it was the Weber kettle Premium instead of the Classic, and in great looking shape at $50. So I jumped on it. Actually messaged the lady 1 MINUTE after she posted it.

Just got back and sure enough it is the Premium ($219 on Amazon). She is an older lady, said it's been sitting for 3y since her husband passed away from the *coof* and it only got used when her son comes down from Minneapolis, so she decided to get rid of it and get herself an easy to use Weber gasser.

    So I won!

Now to see if someone wants this partially burned out Char-Griller Duo that is taking up so much space on my back porch and ONLY gets used a few times a summer to grill dogs & brats.

The kettle has soooooo many accessories to allow for interesting cooks. I'm planning a SNS, probably a rotisserie (one thing my stable of cookers is lacking) and likely a Vortex, as well.

I was hoping to find a 26"er, but those are rare as hen's teeth, apparently, and I ain't lookin' ta pay $400+ for a new one.

Great find! So which cult exactly did you join, Ripping off Old Widows Federation, Day Trip MCS Society, or the Kettle Club? 😉🤣

Waiting to see pix from the first cook.

Ahhh good point, I wasn't too clear on that. lol. The Kettle Club, for sure. For the moment, it'll prolly sit until next weekend, I imagine I'll do some brats and dogs. For now, that'll be most of what it gets used for, is my guess. Wife is after me to clear some patio space, so getting rid of the giant Char-Griller Duo is next on my list. Free curb pickup for someone... with the never used side smoker box AND the very nice $50 cover.

I know, for a moment I thought he went to HEB.

Congrats on the Kettle. I love my Cajun Bandit rotisserie. It is stainless steel. If you ever get a 22" WSM, it fits. That was my plan until I got my Bronco instead of the WSM. I'm smoking wings and stuffed jalapenos using the Vortex and Weber Kettle today. I used the SnS all the time, especially when I reverse sear a Tri Tip.

I have the Cajun Bandit roti, too. I have the battery one. I've had it several years, haven't replaced the batteries yet.

Keep an eye on them so they do not corrode n screw the unit.

Congrats. I went for nearly 20 years without a kettle. Stupid me. I picked up a used Performer a couple years ago and will never be without a kettle again. A Vortex is a must. And actually I have an SnS but never use it. My other cookers do what it does. I also have a rotisserie kit from OnlyFire. Don’t use it an awful lot but when I do it it’s perfect. Wouldn’t be without it. Have fun!

A PBC or Big Green Egg would have gotten you closer to a cult.

Even those are only mildly cult like compared to us Hasty-Bakers

And here I was certain you got a Hasty-Bake …. Congrats, Kettles are awesome.

I'd say you have definitely joined a mainstream religion, not a cult. . And I second the recommendation of the Vortex. The SnS is nice, but the Vortex does some of the same things and is better for a couple of other things, imho.

I agree Steve. I’ll use the SnS for a slow cook on the kettle or if I need more real estate for a quick sear….otherwise my vortex is the workhorse for me.

Yeppers…that Vortex turns my WSCGC into a wing cookin’ machine!
Handy for other things of course, but I can crank out a bunch of awesome wings with that thing in there.

Cool. My one and only cooker is a 22” Weber kettle but with attachments it could qualify as multiple cookers. I have a SnS for slow cooking, a Vortex for fast cooking and a Kettle Pizza attachment for wood fired pizzas.

So are you saying this isn't our cult?

Yeah - while I have other cookers (offset, kamado, griddle and gasser), if I could only have ONE it would be my Performer Deluxe. A kettle is just so flexible, has so many available accessories, and does a great job for about anything I throw at it.

If I could only have one cooker and it couldn’t be a Hasty-Bake, then it would be my SnS Kettle and Insert

Great deal. Congrats. Mrs. JLR & I love rotisserie on the kettle. Being able to add some chunks of wood for smoke flavor turns yard bird into an epicurean delight.

Awesome. Personally I’d skip the slow and sear, I have never used one, never have felt I needed to, and zero fire control problems. I use firebricks instead to build and adjust my fire zones, to exactly how you want one, the added versatility is positive, and extra cash in your pocket for meat.

With that being said, I love the slow and searstainless easy spin grate.

looking forward to your cooks and your thoughts on your kettle.

You used fire bricks to make a SnS insert :-)

And unlike a SNS, I can expand or shrink my zone even build to small. Or build a smaller zone to grab more grate space.

Nice find. A great cooker. Almost everyone says, if I could only have one,…..
