Well, you've all been, uh... helpful??
I pretty much heard what I expected here. If I got the PK I would feel like I should get rid of my 22" MasterTouch. I just don't have the room. But, the more I think about it, the more I don't think I want the original PK. The low height (I have a bad back) ash literally falling out of the vents, cleaning the ash, the hard to access bottom vents etc. have convinced me that my MasterTouch is the way to go. I could maybe go for a PK 300, but ash cleanup is still much worse than the Weber One-Touch system. I've got my kettle pretty well setup with a Vortex, baskets and a new stainless steel grate. I think I'll keep seeing what I can do with it. I don't think the PK can do anything I can't do on my 22" kettle. Thanks anyway everyone. I kind of feel like I've let you all down... I'll just keep looking for a killer deal on a Weber Performer with the fold down table, hopefully with "P" vents

We tried to spend your money. I have the 22" M.T. too. Kick it up and get a Slow and Sear. With everything thing else you mentioned you'll be good to go.

This is NOT how this was supposed to turn out! We pride ourselves on convincing unsuspecting Pit Members to part with their money, whether the purchase makes sense or not. It is extremely rare when someone doesn’t make the purchase, especially when we were at our enabling best! This is truly a sad day here in The Pit.😢

Panhead John, I did attempt to reel him in with the SnS. So all might not be lost.

Well, if anyone is near Boise, this thing is now listed for $85. If it's allowed, here's the link:
There's a PK 300 in Hamilton Montana that's looks great, has a cover, charcoal basket and upper shelf for $175. Maybe these things don't hold their value so well. I'd be more tempted for this one (the Pk 300), but I don't have room and it's a long ways away.

I would 100 percent buy it for grilling and then buy some stainless steel grates for it. I use my Original PK(with stainless steel) more than my PK300 or my kettle grill. The bottom vent holes are a little bit of a pain in the ass for smoking but only if you feel the need to constantly adjust the temp. If I keep my bottom vent around 1/4 open and if I can resist the urge to micro mange the temp and just accept that the temperature is going to fluctuate +- 25 degrees, my Original will sit at 240-250 all day long. If I am grilling which is what I do 99.9 percent of the time, I just leave bottom vents wide open and never think about them. The Original is great for grilling and with stainless steel grates it will last for ever. Cheap enamel throw away grills cost 70-100 dollars.
