I was asked about my thoughts on my new Hasty Bake Legacy 133.
It was packed very securely, and arrived without any damage.
Unpacked, and set up easily. Took about half hour to set up.
Everything fits together easily.
The charcoal basket comes out easily and is easy to load back in. May have to wiggle a little to break the grease seal, from the last cook.
The ash pan pulls out easily, as long as you pull it out straight. If not you hit the doorway.
I have smoked Pork Belly Burnt Ends, Pork Butt Burnt Ends, steaks (seared at the end), chicken, hamburgers, pork butt and brisket on it so far. I have also used a griddle twice to fry bacon, and make burgers and sausage on it.
After you learn the lighting method, and know when and how to set the vents it will maintain a steady temp. Of course opening to spritz caused my temps to climb about 15 degrees then settle back to original temp.
This is a great cooker/smoker/searer.
That said I had a few observations.
1: The side door leaks a little and was elevating my temperatures. fixed by cutting strips off a grill magnet. I think for the price of the unit they would have sealed it.
2: When using the griddle or searing the heat makes the front table warp. But if you put a tray with food on it or a little weight it straightens out.
3: I would like if they made silicone handle covers for the vents. They get hot, so wear a leather glove.
I would highly recommend this HB 133.
Options I would buy for it:
A griddle ( I bought mine at Home Depot. It was bigger)
The Fire Strangler. It helps on saving charcoal, and it cools it down faster so you can cover it.
The Extended Heat Deflector. Keeps direct flames away from a brisket.
The Hasty Snake for the Snake method.
Grate scraper. Also handy in moving hot coals around.
A good pair of high heat gloves. For pulling the charcoal tray out or putting on the heat deflector after starting the fire (Don't ask).
The Grill Lifter.
The Silicone Firedoor Handle.
Heavy Duty BBQ Mister. This is a nice mister, best I have had.
There you have it.
