Polarbear777, ecowper, Frank10231, Lonnie mac, Spinaker, On Saturday 5 May 2018 at BURGRAFFS' ACE HDW'S BBQ FEST, I EXPERIENCED MY FIRST Disappointment With FIREBOARD W/Fan Controol and Auxiliary Battery Pack & Pit Viper Fan❗️ Because of Our Location In Front of The Store There Was No Electriciy Available Without Running A Cord Accross the Doorway and Down the Sidewalk❓ This "Wasn't This Pilgrims First Rodeo" That Wasn't Going to Happen‼️ Using the FireBoard, W//Fan & Temp Adapter, Pit Viper Fan, Weber Kettle, S 'n S, Drip & Griddle & & &, Eunice and I Started to Put the "QUE" On 3 SV'd Pork Butts‼️ All Was Going GREAT UNTIL ALL THE BATTERY POWER WAS DISCHARGED❓ This Occurred Without Audible Alarm or Indication on My iPad Mini or iPhobe❓❓ A Quick Switch Over to Manuel Settiings on the Weber Vents Settins Saved The Day and Disaster Was Averted‼️ The Attaché Pics are Primarily FireBoard Related❗️ OBTW:I Think If I'd Have Used My Heas a 12V Lawn Mower Barrery
Would Have Saved The Day❓ I'm Going to Run This By "STEVE" at FireBoard for His Consideration‼️

12v battery was probably available could Hotwire the drive cable to one.

I run mine off a power adapter so I’ve never investigated battery life. Thanks for sharing.

This is the other reason I like the FireBoard + charcoal/wood rigs over a pellet grill. Manual setting always works if something breaks.

When using the Drive/Fan for something lasting more than a few hours I use a small portable 12v battery pack rather than just using the Fireboard's internal battery.

    This is what I have - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They are still working on diagnosing my issues. At least if you are paying attention either an app reset or a unit power cycle fires everything right back up to normal.

But but you have to realize something happened.

I was just "told" that I’m getting a FireBoard next (I love how BF spends my money for me!). The maverick I’m using works great, however WiFi will make it easier to monitor without having to run out and keep checking. I suspect he secretly wants to play with it.

Gonna follow the suggestions of Histrix and others and get a case for the board and cables. Saw this at Harbor Freight and figure the price difference will pay for a couple extra cables.

Harbor Freight buys their top quality tools from the same factories that supply our competitors. We cut out the middleman and pass the savings to you!

You’ll love the Fireboard. Even without the drive/fan, it is a huge improvement over the Maverick. And I swore by my Maverick until I got the Fireboard.

You're going to love the simplicity with which you will be able to monitor temps, Atalanta, once you start using that Fireboard. I couldn't believe how much time it freed up for me, not having to run and check the Maverick readouts a zillion times. Plus it's a lot of fun to see how the smoker and meat behave during a cook with the time/temp graphs.

Congrats on getting that new toy--and congrats on having such a supportive BF! It's always good to have an MCS enabler in the house.

Picked up some beef short ribs at the store today to test out the Fireboard drive and fan ..... Ridiculously simple. I brought the WSM up to temp (about 230), stuck the fan in a vent hole, taped off the other 3 holes on that vent, closed the other two vents, opened the top vent completely. Then I played with set temps a bit ..... let it get stable at 235 and put the ribs on. Later I bumped the set temp to 240, which is about where I like the WSM to run at. It’s been far more stable than I ever get with vent adjustments.

I like it eco. I'm jonesing for this set up. I'm guessing you would have to drill a hole for the fan to work in a kettle.

OSB this is ridiculously easy .... when I open the lid, Drive detects it, and shuts off the fan ..... with the 7 minute delay until the fan kicks in again, the WSM actually gets pretty well back to the set point .... You definitely want this. Yeah, might have to cut a hole in the kettle.

Just a reminder, you can’t trust those hood thermometers on your grill .... they are so far from the grate. And not very accurate compared to a digital thermocouple.

No you can’t trust a dome thermo. Though after seeing the grate level thermo on my pk360 be dead on, I added a grate level one to my Weber.

As far as I know the only stock grill that comes with a thermometer in the right location is the pk360. Tested with the fireboard etc, it’s within 10F.

Same with the grate level Weber I added.

The hood thermometer on my WSM is 30F lower than my fireboard at the grate. On my Hasty-bake it is 50F lower.

Typically with a good dome thermo there is an calibration screw. I always adjust the dome temp to read what my grate reads.

        ecowper, OSB, Beautiful Ribs ECO‼️ 👍 👍 👍 ‼️
OSB, I Think You Will Be Happier Over The Long Haul If You Drill Your Weber Kettle to Mount Your Fan❗️ I Use a Pit Viper Fan From the BBQGURU With the Weber Adapter❗️ Start By Locating the Max Travel of The
Ash Sweeps Also Mark The Bottom of the Charcoal Grate and Center *- 3/4"-1" Below the Grate on The Centerline of The Ash Sweep Travel❗️ Double Check Every Thing Inside and Out For Interferance With The
Fan‼️ NOTE: The Fan Must Be Mounted OPPOSITE OR +-180* From the S "N S, The Drip and Griddle Will Divert The Air From the Fan to Under the Hot Coals‼️‼️ When Satisfied With the Location, Drill a 1/8"-1/4" Pilot Hole From The Inside of The Kettle Out❗️ Enlarge the Hole From The Outside In, I Used a "CHEAP" Step Drill Bit from Harbor Freight Tools‼️ By Following This Procedure You Wll Minimize Paint Chips or Dents to Your Kettle❗️ The Benefit of Mounting the Fan, Is That You Will Have The OPTION OF FULL LOWER VENT CONTROL IF SOMETHING GOES AWRY‼️ Just This Past Saturday, I Had a complete Battery Discharge Problem at AN ACE HDW BBQ FEST, An Extension Cord Was Not Possible Due to Safety Concern❗️ The Ability to SWTCH to Manual Vent and Temp Settings SAVED THE DAY‼️‼️ 👍 👍 👍, Dan

You should look at the FireBoard case to keep it safe. Works good and if it starts to rain I know my FireBoard will be ok. I do like the new competition probes. I bought two of the new probes and they work great.
