Anyone ever make their own Weber Summit?

Has anyone ever tried to nest a 22" in their 26" to create a double walled kettle?

Interesting. Never tried it. I have a loose 26" bowl & lid but not a loose 22"...... I bet if it fit like we're imagining it'd work pretty nice efficiency-wise but be a pain to operate, that vent would get hot!

One day I'll run across an old broke down 22 and I'll experiment. As far as the vent goes I was thinking one would install a fan.

Attjack, just get you some clay and sculpt your own Kamado kettle, fire it in a kiln, boom! Home made Kamado.

I am now thinking "Play-dough grill".

Ah but how would you properly form the dimples? Large golf ball form?

I've definitely thought about that too.

Interesting idea. I’m thinking you just need the lower half of the 22 and a complete 26. Leave the bottom vent in the 22 fully open and use a few bricks to create an air space between kettles. Might be worth it in a colder climate?

I think the leg receivers would probably provide the spacing.

But I also think you would want the lids to nest too, or you would lose a lot of the insulative properties you get from the a double walled setup.

True. I forgot about the leg spacers. Using the lid for the 22 May or may not require modification of the handle, but that wouldn’t be a big deal.

Anyway interesting idea. Certainly something to keep in mind when hitting up yard sales or when someone just leaves a kettle on the side of the road.
