If there is cheese, it is like you say, Oaxaca or cotija - something salty to meld into that wonderful goodness! The true taco spots here in the area, the food truck spots and Don Choche - it’s onion and cilantro only for most. Unless you get quesabirria style tacos.

Who gives a rip, LETS EAT!!!
Taco is a taco. A sandwich is a sandwich. A gyro is a gyro. An open faced whatever is an open faced whatever. A Reese’s Pieces is a Reese’s Pieces. A cup of water half full or empty is neither, just too big of a cup. The earth is round, ish, not to be confused with perfectly round to those in Oconomowoc. Is there anything else anybody wants to know, google it. Or, check with Mary Ann Webster. Yessir.

I whole heartily agree with the first part of this.

I think the food trucks serving street tacos all over Huntsville do not have cheese. Just your pick of many different meats, and a few crunchy bits of veggie maybe.

No, otherwise they’d call it a sandwich. However, it’s more of a sandwich than a taco will ever be.

Funny, I think I read that in Mexico, tacos are not (or WERE not) served with cheese. Then this was 'adopted' due to American tastes and now a lot of places do add cheese to their tacos, but traditional Mexican homes and taquerias do not. I think the Oaxaca or cotija cheeses are definitely more acceptable in this situation.

Not sure why you say that Dave. Being a 66 year resident of Texas, and living in a town with a taco truck/Tex-Mex Restaurant on every corner, I can speak with a somewhat semblance of authority. We do NOT call breakfast burritos “breakfast taco’s”. We have both of those menu items….and we call them what they are. Maybe you’re confusing Texas with Virginia? 😉

They missed the boat on that point. If, like France, Italy, and Portugal decreed with their wine regions, the Mexican government had ruled that a ‘Taco Zona Diseñado‘ existed where only tacos made in that same designated zone were ‘tacos’, by decree, they would have grounds to complain about all the knock-offs being made outside Mexico. Quel dommage!

This brings the taco wars to a whole new level - taco jihad!

I'm gonna have to go reread the Barbecue Bible, which I feel had some tacos somewhere in the holy text...

Well, I think if we go by bread count, a hot dog is also a taco, right? 🧐

Well, I think technically if you open a quesadilla restaurant, and always used TWO tortillas (top and bottom), you can most definitely satisfy both the Indiana and the Massachusetts courts...

Taco if all else is the same…corn or flour and folded over. Now…if you start to roll that sucker up…
