Canned pinto for me on the rare occasion that I add beans.

Pinto, but I've added kidney or the generic "chili beans" as well (whatever those beans are???).

Next time I add beans, I'm thinking I'll go for the non-canned version, and soaking those overnight. Haven't thought that far ahead yet!

Canned pinto is my first choice, canned red kidney beans are a close second. I always use the seasoned variety for another layer of flavor. I've used mild, medium and hot, but the family prefers medium or mild. Also, using the seasoned variety, you just dump them in. No draining and rinsing required. I always dump them in at the last hour of cooking. I don't like mushy beans and this prevents it.

Bush's 16 ounce beans is my standard chili recipe:

Dark Red Kidney Beans = 2 cans
            Pinto Beans = 1 can
            Black Beans = 1 can

            Low(er) sodium if available.

I thought we had put this to rest. I can see I need to take this up a level. I challenge you to a duel on riding mowers…

Well in Texas, since there are no beans in chili and you want to add beans to your stew then use whatever

But as they say in Philly, I like it wid and wid out

BTW, I just learned today that Cheez Whiz does not actually contain cheese. So, I guess that even if you order your sandwich wit, you're actually getting it wit-out, cheese, that is.

I thought this thread was going to be about chili, but all yall are just talking about meat stew!

                      (Yes, we Texans are insufferable.)
