You gotta shovel? If so, I'd be leaning toward something hearty with some carb load, maybe a potato bacon soup of some sort. Id suggest a split peas soup but you already have a ham n bean setup on your horizon.
Just chilling and watching the world screech to a halt? Something comforting, like French onion perhaps? Or maybe a chicken pot pie soup, most of those are different enough from chicken noodle but still familiar.

The beef barley is a great idea. And chicken soup goes together pretty fast if you start with a rotisserie chicken. Peel all the meat off and simmer the bones plus all the drippings for an hour. If it needs more flavor after that (it usually doesn’t), use a little BtB. Then make soup. If you have some stove top stuffing mix, mix that with a couple eggs and some flour for stuffing dumplings.
Loaded baked potato is the first that comes to mind for me, or maybe broccoli cheddar. Then again good ol’ chicken noodle always makes the house smell amazing.
I love baked french onion too but I don’t have a recipe for it.

I'm definitely following this thread. We are supposed to get whalloped this weekend with snow. NC is going to come to a halt if that happens and I am very much looking forward to it.

Man I love a good snow day… not that anything ever shuts down around here for that. Just a day with no expectations to entertain your brain 👍🏼. Have a great time and keep us updated!
My wonderful wife has made this chicken and rice soup many times for weather like you are describing. You can also use turkey, she made some with some left over from thanksgiving that we froze. She does cook it a regular pot on the stove, and use's the seasoning packet mentioned in the ingredients. We have had this one a couple times this winter.
We also tried Mosca chicken soup the recipe found on here this winter. We skipped the stuffing part, and doctored it a little with potato's ECT. it was very good. Cannot seem to find his recipe.
This curried squash soup is made with spicy, fragrant Thai red curry paste. Served with red curry butter croutons, it's the perfect meal for cold weather.
Definitely a chicken based soup. Lots of nice pieces of chicken, carrots celery and either rice or noodles. But, if you want to cheat a bit, nothing wrong with a can of tomato or chicken noodle soup, some vert soft Wonder type white bread, sliced thin bologna, American cheese and either yellow mustard or mayo. That will Take you right back to 10 years old coming inside, mom making lunch for everybody, with friends enjoying a day off from school playing in the snow.
Oh yeah! Mexican chicken soup. Warm tortillas on the side. Make it with a side of Spanish rice and white onion. They can add as needed. Zucchini and potato goes in well too.
