Getting 8 dozen ears of corn tomorrow!!

Going to be a lot of husking, steaming, milking, cutting and vac sealing going on!
Friend of mine in Ohio runs a farm. He used to drive semi and delivered us product for our food distribution business.
I gave him pulled pork he brought me sweet corn.

This went on for years. Now we are both retired. He called last week and said he had a hankerin’ for some pulled pork. I said I got a hankerin’ for some fresh Ohio corn. So him and his wife are coming up for a visit and some eats. Good times ahead!!!

Ya just can’t beat times like this!!

We raised a little corn growing up. When a deer gets a leg caught in the electric fence and drags it through the corn, it makes a nice path.

Squirrels love sweet corn... I plant three small patches of sweet corn, (~ 60 plants each), and we only got 6 ears from the current patch.

Same with black birds. I had a hobby farm years ago. Had about 100 stalks of sweet corn growing. It was just on the verge of being ready to be picked. I was salivating at the prospect of that super fresh corn. I pulled in the driveway coming home from work and something looked really strange in the corn garden.

There were so many black birds in the garden it was black as mid night. They picked every ear of corn clean! Have hated those thieves ever since.

Sounds to me like the guy who gets the pulled pork is getting the better half of the deal

Have fun, enjoy the time, enjoy the corn. We've got 26 bags of corn in the freezer. Bought three dozen ears from a young couple I married a few years ago, had a member of the congregation drop off another dozen, and then a guy who doesn't belong to my church or any other, but his family sings in our church a couple of times a year called and asked if I'd like some corn. They had so much they couldn't use it all. Which is pretty much what I have heard from others in the area this year, our conditions have been perfect. I'm not even sure how many ears we came home with, plus a 5 gallon bucket of potatoes. Had I don't know how many meals with sweet corn, and still have the corn in the freezer. Great to have friends who like to share.

I can't find my own picture I took of it, but here's a self-serve sweetcorn stand in the back of an old flatbed truck that hasn't moved in a few decades.

How do you pay? Put your money in the wooden box that nailed to the table!
