We've been calling this thing wrong all this time....

I've been informed by one of my colleagues that this:

Is properly referred to as 'jarlic.'

Welp, my life is forever altered. Certainly can't go back to calling it the old way.

Last time i got a chance to hang out with my nephew who is now learning to cook, he said to me…” i cheat, i use jarlic”, made me laugh then, posting it here, makes me laugh again! Lol

I read an article in which the author contended that while it wasn’t as good as fresh garlic granulated garlic was better than jarlic. I quite using jarlic. Granulated garlic is more convenient and has a better shelf life.

LA Pork Butt This! Jarlic tends to be terrible and its shelf life questionable. And granulated garlic is every bit as convenient & shelf stable.

Years ago my ex & I picked up some jarlic thinking it would be super convenient. The problem we found was that it was much more bland compared to fresh. Not sure if we ever finished that jar.

Today, more than 9 times out of ten I’ll simply grab a clove or six and mince, chop, slice as needed.

Sid P we were this many years old when we first heard this.

What’s the brand…. Darot? They have frozen pods of ginger. Love them! I don’t use enough ginger to justify fresh (as I end up tossing it or it freezer burns) and it works for our needs. I notice there is a garlic version. I won’t go there…..

I always have a pack of their garlic in the freezer. It's just so convenient. I'll usually double it to try to make up for the slightly lessening of flavor. I really wish HEB stocked their ginger ones as, like you said, I just don't use ginger enough to justify buying fresh often.

Michael_in_TX Are you near a Wild Fork? That’s where we get ours.

I think maybe Trader Joe’s, too. I’ve gotten the ginger one from there before. Granted, maybe TJ branded of course.

As much as I have used this over the past years I have never heard that term but will probably be using it now. I cannot remember the last time I crushed a real clove of garlic in a cook.

Pretty sure the jar in my fridge expired 5-6 years ago.

Exactly Jerod Broussard - I have a BIG jug of jarlic I got at Costco or something, I don't know that it's a half gallon, but it's gotta be more than a quart. Yet it sits in the back of the fridge, been there for at least 3-4y I think... I never use it. I've gone back to the fresh chopped garlic route most of the time. Yes, a bit of a PITA, but it just tastes better. This is one of those ingredients my Italian blood won't let me skimp/cut corners on. <shrug>

My Jarlic sits right next to my Japple Sauce, Jayo, and Jorshradish in the fridge. Right below the Jolives.

While y’all know my disdain for jetchup, I still have some in the fridge, because BF likes it.
