Several times on TV I've seen people raving about Shishito peppers. In the store yesterday I saw some and decided to give them a try. I googled them and it was stated that the heat level might have a SHU as low as 100, or the occasional one at 1000. I blistered four of them in some oil yesterday for dinner. Quite good and none of them were hot. Now, the rest of these might be a different story

I love shishito peppers. I’ve never had them where they were hot, maybe some heat but nothing that whaps you! I’ve got a shishito plant growing in my garden, should have another 6 or so to pick in the next few days.
The first few I just diced up and added to some meat for tacos, but these I’ll blister and eat.
I’m growing them for the first time this year. They are next to the scotch bonnet plant and some of them have been nuclear hot. Not sure if it’s the proximity to the scotch bonnets or the crazy hot summer we’ve had.
Store bought/ restaurant ones haven’t really topped out much hotter than maybe jalapeño. But these are something special. Maybe 1-2 in 10 are fire.
I have 30 shishito plants, I add them to stir fries or any dish using milder peppers. Most I let ripen to red and use as one of the main peppers in my hot sauce.
Large Big Green Egg, Weber Performer Deluxe, Weber Smokey Joe Silver, Fireboard Drive, 3 DigiQs, lots of Thermapens, and too much other stuff to mention.
I picked up a bag of these a few months ago and they just didn't do anything for me. No heat at all and.....really no flavor. (Texture held up well, so that was good.) Yet, I've had more flavorful green bell peppers.
They are exceptionally popular so I really think I got a mid batch, as they kids say.
