I’m pretty sure they are. I doubt they’re local at all, the vendor probably bought them from a wholesaler. They are definitely a little bit different than the red Hatch chiles I had last year, but I wouldn’t call it huge. The Anaheims are a little sweeter and brighter, the Hatch are earthier and deeper. But the difference isn’t great, those are nuances to the overall taste of the peppers.
But man, $1. As long as the seeds are white when you cut into them, they’re fine for roasting.

That’s tomorrow. This was downtown Wilkes-Barre, on Public Square. That was my first time there, I don’t like where it is because it is crowded, there is a lot of foot traffic crossing the square against the lights, and parking is difficult, with lots of people leaving but also lots of people circling the square for those spaces. But I was in the area and gave it a shot, parking in a 10 minute “waiting zone” and making it in and out in 9 minutes.

We have our local farmers market every Wednesday. There are about a 1/2 dozen Amish farmers at ours. The one has the best corn. He advertises it is picked that morning and never refrigerated. It’s the best corn I’ve ever eaten year after year. Another Amish farm has the best yellow watermelons and yet another brings every kind of lettuce / greens you can imagine. Along with the Amish farmers there are about a 1/2 dozen bakers, a couple of cheese makers, a local honey producer and pasture raised beef, chickens and eggs. I was unable to go this week but we usually go every week until the last week. We have great local produce in the area.
