New local farm market: nice score!

We were talking about Facebook in a different topic; I just joined a neighborhood group, and found out about this farmer who sells roadside. The produce is different, top notch, and costs less than half of the one I usually go to.

Smaller tomatoes! I tried to pick different ripenesses. $2.

Nice squashes! We rarely see the 6-ball and the 1-ball squash around here. $1.50 for the container full.

FEAR THE REAPER. $1.50. I couldn’t grow them myself this cheap.

Purple green beans! I’ve never had these. The internet says they turn green when cooked, and that they are a little sweeter than green or wax beans. We’ll see, I guess. $1.50.

ALWAYS get corn at a Pennsylvania farmer’s market. There is only about another week left, maybe two… but probably next week is the last one (if this week wasn’t). $2.

I really should grow my own scallions. Next year. 50¢.

Dill. This is like cilantro for me. By the time I think about using it, it’s bolted and gone to seed. 2x50¢=$1.

Farm garlic > store garlic. 2x$1=$2.

Do the math! This haul, in 2023… $12. That ain’t bad.

I was there 15 minutes after they opened, and handed the girl a $20. She had to get change from her mom. Mom said, to her, “It’s his first time here.” I told them I’d bring a bunch of ones next time!

Nice. We raised purple hull peas. If using a machine peeler they better be purple, too much green and they smush.

No purple eggplant 🍆 so I'll give you a 9.5/10.

They had them, and also cue ball eggplants. We’ve never warmed up to eggplant, though. It’s okay in baba ganoush, and rollantini is okay if someone else makes it. But neither of us has ever said, “Let’s get eggplant!”

NICE HAUL! If you stick scallion ends in a glass of water you will have them for EVER. In the summer they can be transplanted into pots and grown outdoors.

That's really fun day of shopping gives a fella a smile getting fresh vegs and helping local farmer kids!

                  Good stuff.

I need to cook something today, maybe that will improve the day. It's not a good one so far, generally cooking something good makes me feel better.

Wish I hadn't eaten Wendy's for breakfast. Ugh. Waste of a meal.

I went here again this morning, before hitting the gym. You have to see just how far out in the middle of nowhere it is. If you’re going the speed limit you risk driving right past it.

It’s right where the “i” is in Stairville Road in the center of the map.

This time I took some smaller bills. The squashes were 75¢ each, the corn was $2, the garlic was $2, the tomatoes were $2 for the big ones and $1 for the little green ones. $10.
