I know, there are many ways to do this. And I know that lots of folks already have their method. I like the "cut the end off, stand it up, slice off the rind" method. But some people still make a mess. This is simple, direct, and, although I usually do it with small melons because there’s just the two of us, it works fine for big melons, too. The blade of your knife has to reach halfway into the melon is all. I use a boning/fillet knife, chef’s knives blades are too big.
1) Get a melon.

2) Cut it in half from pole to pole.

3) Cut those halves in half, pole to pole.

4) Cut along the top ridge, down to the rind.

5) Cut perpendicular to that cut, down to the rind, in whatever size pieces you want.

6) Run your knife along the rind, on both sides, making sure the cuts connect in the middle. (That’s not essential, but it makes the next step really easy.)

7) Hold the melon over a bowl, and push the pieces out with your thumb.

That’s it. You can have melon pieces in a couple minutes, easy. Slice, slice, slice, done. And notice,no watermelon juice all over, to clean up! Easy Peasy!
