    Frozen whole ,ackerel

    Picking up a small order of frozen whole mackerel today. Not ideal I know, but beggars can’t be choosers right now. Considering grilling/smoking whole, but welcome any suggestions.

    Mackerel can be good eats. Fairly oily fish, so I'd defrost, salt and pepper and then stuff some herbs, shallots and lemon slices in it and grill. The lemon will provide some acid to balance the fattiness.

    Mackerel is probably my fave fish to make fish cakes with. I usually just google a random recipe or wing it.

            I like to make ceviche with spanish mackerel, or sometimes deep fry it

              Smoke it! I’ve done it many times, it’s delicious! It’s a fatty fish that takes well to smoking. Smoke it whole, it takes 30-45 minutes. Inner temp should be 50 deg C.

                      Looks like the plan is to smoke at least one of ‘em. I’ve got two fairly large ones. May grill one hotter. It’ll be a couple of days though.
