I like a little garlic in the background but when recipes want to make it the predominant spice...No Thankyou!

Skip - I find this completely incomprehensible. 🤔

I really like garlic in some dishes and hate it in others. I went to a local restaurant that is known for the garlic in their dishes but whatever I had tasted like a skunk sprayed directly in my mouth. Horrible burnt garlic taste.

Gordon Ramsey agrees with you, Skip. My wife's family eats several dishes with raw garlic in them and it is a bridge too far for me, even though I do love garlic

Tarragon in chicken salad kills the whole thing. No thanks.

OK - Nothing I would say I dislike. BUT my body revolts against too much curry.

        +1 on Anise.

I can’t think of any spices that I hate. Herbs? Cilantro if used to excess. I do hate yellow or orange squash (punk’in, butternut, etc). And durian. I’m prepared to exercise my second amendment rights if one of those stink bombs shows up on my doorstep.

I think many of the dislike comments are comments of over use or use in the wrong place, such as tarragon in eggs, why? Or the pumpkin craziness mentioned & then junkin up coffee. Usually a lot of junk in the coffee is to mask inferior stale, burnt coffee. With all this said, I don’t know a spice that I do not like if used properly like. Can’t say there’s anything I "hate".

              Well stated FireMan .

Anise and coriander/cilantro. I had a medicine as a kid that was sickly sweet black licorice flavor that would make me gag. So anise is a no go. Cilantro tastes like soap to me.

I like curry. Heck, it’s my last name.😄

Not a spice, but onion powder on anything takes me back to the disgusting food from my high school cafeteria. Mix it with dried dill and it may as well be Ipecac.

Tarragon is unusual and distinct. Nothing else really tastes like that. When used sparingly, it can give that sense of "wow!" to a dish; when used improperly it can overpower everything else and turn it into one brash note.

Wow. I never realized Tarragon had so many enemies.

i use it the time on butters, marinades, vinaigrette’s and the like. Gonna make me think twice about making that next potato salad.

I think too much dill is in that category. Ugh.

+1 on tarragon, cilantro (love it) and rosemary. Use all three all the time. All three in my compound butter. Dill gets used exclusively on fish, love it too !!!

My wife puts Tarragon on braised turnips and I get down on that stuff like it was crack cocaine.

              I HATE CAPERS!

I found out a while back that capers can go bad/get yucky too, even though their in a brine. Some bad ones/one can contaminate the whole taste of the jar. Just an FYI. I was surprised. Like that really drunk friend who can ruin an evening. So I heard.

I don't hate it, but not a huge fan.

              #44
Hmmm, can't say I've met a spice I don't like...and I use many of the ones hated here.
If I had to choose a spice/additive that I really don't like though...it would be peppermint. I like other mint, but peppermint tends to take over and, being completely nasty, ruins whatever it's in.

                Cumin.

                Can't stand the stuff.

Curry would be a close second.
