How long would you keep a home made dry rub around before you consider it expired?

The best way for your large batches of Rub to not go too old is to cook for more friends, more often! #LifeIsMoreFunOntheRibList

Don't know yet. I made up a very large batch of MMD over a year ago and it's still fine after sitting in an airtight container, in a cool and dark pantry, and in very low ambient humidity here in Colorado all that time.

If you get on a cycle growing peppers, herbs, garlic, whatever, you don't use fresh you dry, dehydrate to use as rubs. If you have paprika from peppers you just dried, onions, garlic... you will notice a difference in smell, taste. Dried herbs are still green, after a while they turn as brown as the supermarket bottled stuff shipped from wherever. These differences are slight, heat never leaves peppers... but worth a try growing your own rub ingredients. It doesn't take much, herbs do better when their neglected.
