I get gifted rubs from my family and friends every holiday. If they were from someone who smoked meats regularly I would probably try them. My kids are all accomplished smokers and know I make my own rubs. Pit members know some good stuff. But my family as a whole are Weber kettle, KBB, Gulf light charcoal lighter fluid kind of people. They are legendary in well done steak with a mystery flavor they want you to guess. That being said I’ve been gifted some rubs from people I respect and was just going through my rub cabinet looking for a place to make room for them. Here’s the question. If you or I post pictures of unopened rubs we’ve been given would anyone be interested in them. I’d be glad to put some in one of those USPS mail everything that will fit in this box for one fee deals. I have several unopened and several that I’ve opened recently that I’d get rid of but that would depend on your trust factor. I’m just tired of carrying a box full of rubs to the dumpster 2 or three times a year. I can’t offer them to the neighbors because I’m pretty sure several of them came from the neighbors. Long story short are you interested in a place to give those rubs to someone who wants them? There are several people here that I wouldn’t be bothered if they had tried the rub. I do think they should be offered separately. I’m not talking home made rubs or old rubs. Just a regifting that might give someone something they’d like as opposed to throwing it away.

Are you thinking a rub trade? Or just selling what you have on hand. I don’t have anything to trade as I pretty much make all my rubs at home, but may be up for paying the needed fee to help you offload some extras.

I always use up every rub I buy or receive, I haven't found a rub I can't tweak to my liking when necessary but most of 'em are good enough as is (and quite a few are really good).
If you have unused ones that still have plenty of shelf life, maybe include 'em in whatever you send out for secret santa here?
I like the intent of what yer doing, but I know lotsa people get weird about opened things.
Another option for unopened ones is to donate to a local soup kitchen if they'll take it or a food bank.

Well now, I’d be willing to try some rubs. I make my own MMD. I like it as it doesn’t have salt as I dry brine my pork and beef smokes.
I would be willing to pay the postage for shipping via PayPal.

I think it is a great idea. I make some of my own, but being a sucker to try a new rub, especially if it is on sale, I am out of room to store any more. This is such a good idea. Now, if we could just figure out how to loan all those different smokers to one another for a month at a time we would kill MCS. It would be like test driving all the possible cars before you decide which one you will buy.

I agree, this is interesting. I'd like to try some new rubs - and at seemingly $10-14 a bottle, it can get pretty prohibitive. I usually end up going back to my old standby MMD+ and SPG (who the F*** actually PAYS for an SPG rub?????), but I have found a few that I enjoy on various things.
Think I'm'a start a topic on rubs... it's an interesting topic, and some of us aren't exposed to a lot of 'commercial' versions around us, except what WallyWorld and Costco carry.
Show us what ya got, man! Or just throw 'em in a box and make it a 'surprise'. lol

I'm not addicted to BBQ, but like to play with it on occasion. I don't have any desire to make my own rubs other than I did make some pastrami rub to use on corned game meat (ducks, geese, antelope, elk, and deer so far). WOW! That stuff is WAY good!
I looked at all the forums on here and didn't see any that are exclusively devoted to rubs. Might this thread be a call for just one more forum - Rubs: Commercial; Rubs: Home made; Rubs: Exchange?
