Failure sometimes really isn't really all that bad.....

Click image for larger version Name:	20180825_184447.jpg Views:	1 Size:	574.9 KB ID:	556014 From perceived failure comes lessons learned, wisdom, future success and even some good eats in the end.

I know we all want to post pictures of our amazing cooks in order to get accolades from the guys who have been doing this for a very long time. Getting "likes" on our pictures builds our self-esteem and just makes us feel good. Sometimes we must post stories when it isn't the "best."

Here is a story that in my book was a failure but in the end was okay.

I recently tried beef short (dino ribs) and used too much pepper. Search for me and you can find the post. So yesterday I did a pork butt and my wife just off the beef ribs situation said "please don’t put too much rib on the pork". So after almost 38 years of marriage I know when to listen….and didn’t put much rub on the butt.

Funny thing was that as I am pulling the butt out of the fridge to put on the grill knew there wasn’t enough rub. I should have gone with my instinct. When I wrapped the butt I know there was almost no bark. Just a smooth outer looking skin. I wrapped it and told my ever-loving that I had no idea how the thing was going to taste.

At 10.5 hours I put the butt in the faux cambro for about two hours and then started shredding. The bark was almost non-existent but the pork tasted good. I love a good bark but in the end we enjoyed the sandwiches. Tomorrow we will have sweet potato hash (see prior post).

Lesson learned. Sometimes a "perceived" failure isn't so bad.

EDIT: I didn't use pepper on the butt just Butcher BBQ Premium Rub. My wife just didn't want me to put too apply too much rub.

I'm sure everyone here has had less than optimal results at some point, (well, except me, of course... ). So just keep cookin'.

I thought it looked delicious. I should have many such failures.

I think that anybody who cares two shakes about things, is most often their own worst critic...I am certainly guilty, as charged, there!

Yer pork Butt looks Delicious, I'd tuck right in on it, without hesitation, or complaint! Fine Job!!!

An, as ya said, this is how we git better, gain wisdom, etc.; ultimately, th Goal we all constantly strive for!

Looks good from here. Usually though pork rubs aren't too peppery, especially MMD. You can probably add more pork rub if you want more bark w/o having to sleep on the couch

I had a failure a week or 3 back. Forgot to read the temp gauge, a Celsius vs Fahrenheit thing. Wibs were edible, taters not so much. Bark looked fantastic. 😎
Yes it’s all a learning process.

Sometimes looks are deceiving, but got to agree those are killer looking sammies. Went to a brand new bbq joint that just opened near my house to great fanfare. They touted their big, beefy ribs so hey, I says, give me one of those bad boys. They must have dumped the entire pepper mill onto the thing, it was so awful I had to bring it back for something else. Even the so called pros get it wrong, just learn to adjust.

As to your better half, I just say "yes dear" and do what I know to do. But occasionally, as in your case, they are right. Dang I hate that

Yeah, that looks terrible. You should probably give all of the to me and I will get rid of it for you.

I was gonna make burgers today but now you have me rethinking my game plan. Thanks for that.

BTW... we only ever post pics of our good stuf, not our mistakes and troubles, well except RonB 😀

The best thing about the internet is that you can't taste the pictures.
