Hi there guys. I have tried various places to purchase pork shoulder/Boston butt, not easy here in Puerto Rico. Not even walmart have them. What is available in every supermarket if Pernil, which is Pork picnic. The picnic/Pernil is very popular in the islands and south america, just to name few places.
Now my question, "Can a pork Picnic be cooked as a pulled pork technique?". Would it work? Has anyone trried this?
Any advice? Would it be possible to substitute pork shoulder for a pork picnic?
Yes... it's a bone in pork shoulder. Cook it exactly like we talk about pork butts in the Pit.👍 What is a pork picnic?
Traditionally speaking, a picnic roast is defined as a pork shoulder roast, which is considered the fattest and toughest part of a pig. Southern cooks typically smoke or barbecue the roast for long periods of time and refer to it as pulled pork or a picnic roast.

+1 on that! I have done picnic as pulled pork, with excellent results. The only thing that I would add is to remove the skin and some of the fat layer, if it has not already been done.
