    Baby back ribs question

On a 22 inch weber kettle using a slow n sear, how many racks of ribs will fit on the indirect side? 3 or 4 maybe?

    #2
Without a rack I can fit two. I have cooked 4 racks with a rib rack before but it does take longer since the ribs are close together in the rib rack

Another option is to bend each slab into a circle and secure the ends together with a skewer. You can easily fit 4 in there that way.

+1 Steve. I circle them when I have the need. They are going to get cut up into ribs anyway. Different photo opp.

Welcome aboard! If you use a rib rack or coil them, you'll want to flip them for even cooking.

If you have a roasting rack that people use to put rib roast into a pan with your can flip it upside down and use it as a rib rack. That's what I've done in the past. My next big rib cook I'm trying the coil technique.

BB can vary in size quite a bit. On the large end, I've done the Costco 3 pack whole with no cutting or trimming, in a rack, with shuffling 4 or 5 times. Still needed a bit of curving to fit, but they came out fine. I wouldn't want to try 4 racks in that configuration. Coiling looks interesting. Is there a definitive method? SLS vs BBR?

Hey, what about if I use a Vortex, small end up, and cut the racks in half? Would 3 fit and would I be able to maintain it down to about 225-250 degrees?

I recall someone here getting FIVE racks on the indirect side, by rolling them up in a spiral and sticking a skewer through them. There's a photo somewhere.

That's an interesting idea. Might have to give that a try next time around.

If you're going to be using the SnS you can use the lower rack as well as the top rack, you should be able to get between 8 and 10 slabs of baby back ribs if you're using both racks top and bottom, I got this information for Meatheads book on page 88
