Sourcing premium St. Louis ribs in Northern - coastal San Diego County?

    Hello folks,

I live in Oceanside CA (Northern most coastal San Diego County). I'm planning a neighborhood Memorial Day BBQ. I want to wow them w/ the best St. Louis ribs the've ever had. I ruled out the Swift commodity ribs at Costco. I enjoy the color and marbling of Berkshire and or Duroc pork. I found "Prairie Fresh Prime Competition grade St. Louis Spare Ribs" Online at Hunts Point. I was willing to pay the premium price, but shipping costs make these beyond my budget.

As of yet, I have not been able to find anything other than commodity ribs locally. I see Wildfork has Ibirco, but the reviews are not good.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Respectfully,
    JD

Hey Mosca, I just called them. They said they used to carry Duroc St. Louis ribs, but not longer.
    Thanks for the recommendation!

I'd sure love to find a local retailer that stocks Prairie Fresh.

Try Tip-Top Meats in Carlsbad or Kennedy's Met Market in Escondido. 99 Ranch, H-Mart (Kerney Mesa) or Sin Lee Wholesale (City Heights) might be worth a shot also. Not sure if any of those carry Berkshire or Duroc, but it's worth a shot

Thank you. I see they have Ibrico ribs but the reviews aren't great.

I think what Walmart carries varies regionally. I am pretty sure I've never seen Prairie Fresh here. What they seem to carry is Tyson or Smithfield down here in Alabama.

Have you checked out Seaside Side market in Cardiff-by-the-Sea? I know they are "famous" for their Cardiff Crack (marinated tri-tip), but they do have a lot of other meats - and great fish.

          Thanks GolfGeezer,
Yes, they only stock baby back ribs.
          Their crack is excellent!
          Best regards!

Expand your search to include "whole spare ribs." You can make the cut to separate the tips from the St. Louis cut yourself, and you have tips to cook as well, or to freeze and cook later. B

That is what I tend to do myself, albeit mostly with commodity ribs.
