    Bacon

I have always been a Serious Eats fan. But that is being tested right now. I ran across this article testing store bought bacon. First of all they didn't include Wrights, which I think is hands down the best store bought stuff, then the winner was Smithfield. What???

Yeah, can't beat Wrights. HEB bacon is good too, I'd have to do a side by side to see if it is better than Wrights.

I am really hoping our Boys weekend is in New Orleans so I can get to the meat up in the rv. It has a residential fridge. And I will be near HEB. Even if i miss the meat up I plan to swing through TX in it.

klflowers If you do swing through Texas and you come via I-10 let me know: I'm right there, we can meet for lunch, maybe at Redbird BBQ or 1701 BBQ. That is, if it doesn't interfere with the Meat Up dates.

Hill's bacon, out of Pendleton, Oregon, is, IMO, the best. I believe distribution is limited to westerly states.

Have you tried Hempler's, regional as well. Used to be my favorite when I lived up there.

Hempler's is also good. I think that I prefer Hill's.

Sure would not have been Smithfield for me. Sam’s own brand is better than Smithfield. Wrights is just hard to beat.

FYI- Sam's sources bacon from Smithfield amongst others. Wright is owned by Tyson. The Smithfield plant in North Carolina can do 30,000+ hogs/day. There's probably 50 different brands coming out of that plant.

I had always read that Members Mark bacon was sourced from Godshalls in PA.

They may. Do just enough to advertise it.

Wrights for big box, but Robertsons Ham (dry cure cold smoked) is the absolute best i have ever had.

Get it from the butcher, their own animals.

This article brought to you by Smithfield. SE sold out a long time ago. I used to love SE too.

Cooked up some Wright's in the oven earlier today. So good.

Serious Eats sometimes makes me weary trying to read their food opinion pieces like this. Their equipment reviews are better and seem to track with every other reviewer web.
Bacon is a tough review, imho, because one brand’s offering this week may be entirely different the next week.
FWIW, Wright’s is my favorite closely followed by the HEB thick cut offering.

If you live in Texas, this stuff is great! It’s available at Walmart and some H‑E‑B s. It has more meat on em than most other brands. But let’s face it, all bacon is at least pretty good! It’s only available in Texas though. I like it a little bit better than Wrights. Kountry Boys is the brand and it’s made in Brenham, Tex.

Jerod, an establishment number? That’s just a pic off the internet, not sure what to look for anyway, I don’t have any on hand.

Big box store’s its hard to beat wright brand bacon. If you’re local to Alabama, Conecuh bacon is legit, like everything else they produce

I'm a big fan of bacon, Wrights will beat out smithfield any day, I also like Sams thin sliced comes in a 3 pack, just picked 3 - 3 packs before the snow hit. We do not have HEB up this way. I do not like Walmarts bacon.

I almost exclusively buy my bacon at the local farmers market
occasionally, in a pinch, I might buy Oscar Mayer at the grocery store

I get Oscar thin sliced. Thick has been too tuff. My bacon has a first name, it's O-S...
