Tomorrow I’m having my kids over for a Octoberfest meal.
I’m smoking the Schweinebraten: Pork Butt With German Flair. It came in the AR newsletter. I’m just wondering if anyone else has tried it? The recipe calls for a lot of ground cumin. I’m going with it but just wondering how it turned out for other.
The (limited number of ) German meals I’ve prepared have never called for cumin. I use it often in American dishes like chili and gringo tacos, so it feels out of place in German food.
….but I’m no expert on the culinary traditions of Deutschland.
You know it was pretty good! The cumin did not overpower it. Everyone loved it. I would cook it again. But next time I want to have the skin attached for the crispy flavor.
We also made the German potato salad. It was also good but I think it could have done with a little more vinegar.
